you talk to a Republican about Iraq.. .and they go on and on with Rumsfeld stats about how many hundred thousand troops and policemen they have trained and how the government is formed with elections and everything is going great and how the insurgency is just a very small pocket of upset folks that will calm down soon...

then you go... "well that's great... sounds like our job is done and it's about time to leave"... and then they freak out and are like "WE CAN'T LEAVE... IT'S HORRIBLE OVER THERE AND THEY'RE ALL INCOMPETENT AND THEY CAN'T DEFEND THEMSELVES AND THEY ARE WEAK!"

uh... which is it... are things going great or are things horrible? Do they have several hundred thousand heavily trianed troops, like Rummy said, or are they weak... you can't have a trained army that large and be weak?

and if any other nation attacked them, I'm sure we would come to help them out... that's elementary...

I'm only saying that all I see are mixed messages that are not only inconsistant... but all too often totally contradictory...

who is telling the truth?

wmcritter... what is that point that they are able to "defend themselves"... if rummy is telling the truth... then they should BE MORE THAN CAPABLE of defending against any internal attacks... and LIKE I SAID... if Iran decided to attack, I'm sure we would get involved... and Iran knows that... if we can defend taiwon against China with no troops, but we have to have 100,000 there to defend Iraq against Iran (who is in the 60s militarily)?

legogirl: nice... I guess that you can just use that quote to defend any action... God forbid you try to actually answer the question?

farkas419: so... there is a war... so... the whole "mission accomplished" thing was exagerated...

and I have family over there too... so it worries me...

and if the Iraqis are not willing to stand up against the insurgents... it's going to be a long war...

The American military has been pinned down with war in the Middle East to feed the weapons manufacturers contracts. It's really convenient how the contracts run for ten years isn't it. I have a question back at you on this subject. How many Democrat weapons manufacturers are there in America?

Things are going good, but are not perfect yet. Duh!
If we stay, we can help things get better. Duh!
If we leave, they will get worse. Duh!
We will not have to stay forever, just until the government is stable enough, and able to defend against threats like Iran. Duh!

Seriously, this is not hard stuff to figure out. Just use your brain for 2 seconds to think about things. Put aside your blind, irrational hatred of Bush and look at the situation in Iraq objectively.

Your "question" isn't a "question" in any respect; extra useful to ask why you do no longer finally end up an appropriate internet site that facilitates you to weblog an OPINION that's what you probably did, basically veiled as a query. i might desire to objective to respond to your "question" yet why complication? You answer it your self for the reason that what you think approximately "newsworthy" is scandal yet no longer cap & commerce tax, a million.7 Trillion in nationwide Debt owed the chinese language [a million.5 of it OWNED by using BHO no rely how long they pick to declare "inheritance"], well-known healthcare law, bait & change taxation [cigarettes, alcohol, soda], greater gas costs chasing the flux capaciter dream, even greater unemployment nearing 10% and attempting to spend His way out of it, the systematic Socialization of u . s . a .... take your %. of what could be "newsworthy". How approximately Charles Rangel investigated for ethics back from a visit with CARIB information: MSM reported that one? yet your bias is somewhat obtrusive for the reason that Palin "ran from her duties" jointly as Obama, Clinton, Richardson, Dodd, Biden and others et al. held a central authority seat and have been given PAID FOR IT jointly as campaigning for POTUS. the reality that pedophiles get 24-hour coverage using fact human beings such as you think approximately them "icons" [a minimum of FOX reported this]... Ask the unemployed in Elkhart, Ind [the region BHO gave His "the Stimulus will save u . s . a . Speech" in case you sign it now, Now, NOW! devoid of examining the bill] and notice how they like 18% unemployment?

Neither is true. It is NOT going fantastic, but it's not a complete quagmire, either. From what soldiers there have told me, the war would be over if more Iraqis stood up for themselves. Oftentimes, the Iraqis will see someone set down an IED, and look the other way.
What's going on in Iraq is WAR. Anyone who says it's a complete failure is ignorant. Anyone who says it's a complete success is ignorant.
It's resulted in death and destruction, which war always does. But at the same time, it is wonderful that Sadolf Hitlerssein is no longer in power. It's also wonderful that twelve million Iraqis voted, despite the fact that they were threatened with death.
On one hand, I believe that yes, the Iraqis DO want freedom. On the other hand, I also believe that they're tired of death, they're scared, and their GREATEST fear is that we will abandon them.
So you see, even though some Democrats have accused me of being a "neocon" Republican, my views are considerably more moderate.
I don't "support" the war, per se. I don't protest it either. All I know is what the soldiers who are there or have been there have told me, and that's not enough. Therefore, I support THEM. I believe in THEM. If there's nothing else in this chaotic world that an American can believe in, we CAN believe in the majority of our soldiers. Sure, some have done wrong. But that's a couple hundred out of three million.
I like those statistics.
If that makes me a neocon, so be it. I think it just makes me an American that supports our military.
And believe me when I say, I have something personal invested in Iraq. I have friends and family members there RIGHT NOW, putting their lives on the line for those people.

And for the record, by the time your question expires, I'll have at least six thumbs-down. I engaged in a battle of wits with a group of CHILDREN here in the politics section, and they're angry that they came unarmed.

Edit: To an extent, the "mission accomplished" thing WAS an exaggeration. Only problem is, it's only through hindsight that we have that perspective. At the time, deposing Hussein and assisting in the founding of a democratic government seemed to be all that was needed.
It was naive, at the least. It's NEVER that clean and simple. It was stupid of our government to think it was.
It's not an impossible situation, though. As I said, I believe in the capability of our soldiers. They will do what they were sent to do...as long as we let them.
As a sidenote, I feel for you that you know some that are there as well. I hope and pray they all come home safely.
