Won't happen unless you repeal the 1st Amendment, which will happen right around the time pigs fly.

If this was the official religion of America nothing would change because we would still have freedom to choose any religion. There may be some significant consequences on future legislation. The same points that were used to make christianity the official religion of america could be used for future legislation. So you would have to have all the details behind this new constitutional amendment to know how it would affect future proposals.

That would give protected status to one expression. All others would be considered illegal and the participants of the non-sanctioned religious expression could become second class citizens. The following quotes should give you some ideas.
"The national government will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests. It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality.
“Today Christians stand at the head of our country. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press -- in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of LIBERAL excess during the past years."
Adolph Hitler; Taken from The Speeches of Adolph Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1, Michael Hakeem, Ph.D. (London, Oxford University Press, 1942), pp. 871-872.
"The [National Government] regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life."
Hitler
"Secular schools can never be tolerated because such a school has no religious instruction and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith.... We need believing people.
Adolf Hitler, April 26, 1933
I hope to live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't gave any public schools. The churches will have taken over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!
Rev. Jerry Falwell, 19791

Well...
At the time it was made in 1776....christianity was basically the only religion. Anyways....
We all know that illegal immigration is happening today. It is changing america....
So to if christianity was named the official religion. So many immigrants from other religions would influence new amendments.

If that were to happen it would be a nightmare for everyone. I say this as a liberal democrat and my religion is southern baptist. So um when you try to force everyone to live one way it never works. Its like if you know that grape kool aid is the best kool aid ever and its the only thing you will ever drink, but John likes red kool aid and its the only thing he will ever drink.Suddenly you are master or the world and can make John drink only grape kool aid, he will hate you and want his red kool aid and try and try to get his red kool aid back. Just because people think their religion is the only right one, doesnt mean it is.Not everyone fits into one ideal of religion.

It won't be because freedom of religion is one of our basic rights as citizens. The only way any religion could or would be named as the "official" religion is if our government completely abandoned our basic human rights and ripped up our Constitution.

I don't think it can, because the Constitution also protects freedom of religion, (any religion), so it would be a contradictory amendment
