Why can't you understand that they are not crying over the "slavery" that happened 400 years ago ( which is no small matter mind you)? Why do people forget that it was only illegal to stop blacks from voting in 1965? That MLK had his speech in 1964 and Rosa Parks refused to sit at the back in 1956??
That's my parents generation!!!!
Isn't it unfair to expect Blacks to have the same percentage of educated, wealthy and powerful people as other races when they only had rights 40 years ago? People say " well, I wasn't the one that owned them why should I have to pay?"
True, But Blacks still have to pay to this day, and we'll stop whining and b!tching as you say, once you've realized that all those years of discrimination can't be erased like that!
* I just had that said to me today and I'm still boiling sorry, when I watched my own parents being turned away from a restaurent because they had the wrong color skin!*

I know you and you are not to blame, you are done with what happened years ago.
Blacks aren't done with it because the consequences of it all fell on them ( lack of education, poverty that causes the youth to husstle and be violent). We are still dealing with it all. You, Mr White, are done...I don't blame you but don't criticize me and peers for not being at the same page as you.
And I do listen to Bill Cosby. He has the right to say all he's saying, he won his struggle. The rest have to follow, and we will.

Some african americans can use slavery as an excuse not to succeed or be successful as a cop out. You are right many people are prejudice today but that needs to be combatted in an intelligent way, like not letting anyone hold you back. Go to college , get an education, apply for the job that you want and if anyone trys to stop you because of the color of your skin do not accept no for an answer. Prove those redneck idiots wrong.
Encourage your parents to take legal action against the restaurant too so this won't happen to anyone else. help pave the way for an easier life for other African Americans and help yourself at the same time.

I would say I know just what your saying but I can't. But I know as my brother is a big time racist. I remember working for him at a carlot and when a black man came in he wanted to look at a certian car and my brother told him it was sold, then he asked about another car and he told him that one was sold also and so on and so on until he got it and turned around and walked out.
I really hatted that but I couldn't do nothing about it as it was my brother and I couldn't change him.
But one thing I have learned also, it don't matter if your black, red, white, pink or yellow, people are going to discriminate no matter. I grew up in a black neighborhood and needless to say the school I went to was 98% black, I was the only white student in the classroom, really I was the only white person as the teacher was black, the principle, there were only 5 white students in the whole school, and you want to talk about discrimination?
Yes what was done years ago was wrong, but that is history thank God, just as my ansisters were slaves back in the days of Moses, should I go and cry about Pharoh and how he treated my ansisters? Sorry about the spelling.
But now thank God for what you do have. I use to watch a couple shows that have a black judge and another one is a talk show I can't think of, two great black men that did what it took to get where they are today. One of them, really I believe both of them went to prison but now look at them, they seen what they were doing wrong and changed, just as I did as I have been there and done that. When I got out I could have went back to drugs and blame everyone for the way I was raised. But I decided to change and now I have a nice wife and family.
So just try not to let things bother you so much as it don't matter who you are, somebody is going to say something. Write it off and know your better than them and they don't know what they are talking about. Hope this helps and pray that you don't run into more people like your talking about. Have a Blessed Day.

First off, you are correct. Basically correct, that is.
The problem is that thinking that everything that goes wrong in a given Black person's life is directly attributable to slavery and racism is not QUITE true. I've known too many (White) liberals who sincerely feel that nothing negative that a minority person does or has happen to him or her is his or her own fault because White people are to blame for everything bad in minorities' lives. This attitude is extreme, and--although its INTENTIONS are good, it's basically patronizing.
If one looks at the situation dispassionately, and without any political agenda whatsoever, one will observe that there are some people who keep themselves down, and who attempt to keep others down (it's called "the crab pot mentality"), in some warped notion of cultural pride. A really good example of this is those folks who deride others who value education, by accusing the good students of, "Trying to be White." Or they'll promote drug-dealing, gang-banging, and suchlike as, "Keepin' it real."
And I hate to say this, but there are two minorities in this country who seem to hate other minorities that have also had a history of prejudice against them, yet are successful in spite of it. Why? It disproves their mindset that everything bad in their lives is solely due to racial prejudice. It means that if they made the same amount of effort as those other minorities--instead of wasting their time, whining about racism--that they could be successful, also.
It is neither true that everything that happens to oneself is ones own fault nor that nothing that happens to oneself is ones own fault. As a White person who grew up upper-middle class, I'd say that 90% of what happens to me is my own doing, and the other 10% is just random sh-t that is beyond my control. If, OTOH, you're a minority, if you're underclass, if you live in a crime-ridden neighborhood, etc., then way less than 90% of what happens to you is within your control But that doesn't mean that NOTHING is under your control and that you can blame history, ignorance, and prejudice for EVERYTHING that's bad in your life.

Because most, not all, but most african americans people, to a lot of non blacks (and that includes asians, etc) seem to have this lazy attitude in life especially toward education. And people get pissed off when these people ask for handouts and cry racism all the time when they themselves put themselves in their own situation. If you were a hard working, education minded people, you wouldn't be nearly as poor and behind. It's this victimized attitude that has set you back. That's why white people have negative attitudes towards blacks, not cuz they're black, but because of the way they act...or like how MLK would put it, the content of their character. Listen to some more Bill Cosby

I am sick and tired of hearing about the whiney slavery crap. You weren't even alive then I hope, nobody alive today was. I am part black, you don't hear me whining. I am part Native American too, you never hear me whine about that either. And the white side of me didn't come until the turn of the century (1899-1900). I had no part in it at all, and NEITHER DID YOU!!! The thing I really like, is the Jews got it WAY worse about 60 years ago, You don't hear them laying on their butts and crying about it.

Well then tell all of your Black friends to stop their darn complaing about the number of blacks in CEO positions, and NFL head coaches, and public office and all. Sure...your right it is "unfair to expect Blacks to have the same percentage of educated, wealthy and powerful people as other races when they only had rights 40 years ago" so why don't the blacks listen to that trhemselves and stop their banter about there being few black people in prominent positions.
Besides...Rappers are half to nblame anyway. They certainly are not helping with the "black image" or the "black role model"

Why should I be blamed for the mistakes (or cruelty) of others? I am sorry that black Americans were treated so badly, but I wasn't a part of that. I respect all humans regardless of their skin color or ethnic background, yet I'm treated with hatred by some black Americans who feel that all whites should be punished for the sins of others. Let's accept each other for who we are today and make America a better place for all mankind.

What restaurant did your parents get turned away from ?? I dont believe it...but I know for sure there are black owned restaurants that would not want white customers!
Dont know about discrimination??? Give me a break! I just saw a sign in town that was advertising the Black Business Expo. Can you imagine what would happen if a group of business owners tried to do a White Business Expo?? Want to guess what would happen if I (being white) tried to sign up for this Black only Expo??
