The transom window above our front door has a big scratch in it. Is this something that can be repaired? If so, how?

The house is less than 3 months old, and the builder claims that surface damange like this isn't covered under our warranty.

Providing the scratch is not too deep it is possible to polish it out but it is a messy and hard process without proper equipment. There are companies that remove scratches from car windshields who may be able to help.

They do make stones that can buff out some scratches, but I wouldn't try it myself for fear of making it worse. You could always replace the glass, or camouflage it by frosting/etching the glass. Maybe add a decorative design that will cover the scratch, like a faux stain glass.

I've only tried on plexiglas. (Motorcycle windshied). But it works well. It's a product called Scratch Out or Scratch Off. You can get it at auto stores or WalMart. It's by the car waxes.
