Yes, it is warming and has been warming for quite some time. (Two years is not a good sample for an experiment, by the way.)

The question isn't whether global warming is happening, but whether humans are driving it, what can be done that won't drive it, and what effect those modifications will have, if any.

That is where scientists do not agree. You would have to take a sample of temperatures from ancient Rome until today to begin to measure the effect of human activity on global warming.

It is true that the earth does warm and cool naturally. A warming trend will last thousands of years, and, as far as we can tell, the Earth was in a warming trend prior to the Industrial Revolution.

When I studied geology in college, the earth had warmed a little over a degree since 1957, and that was in the late 90s.

So, what if humans are driving temperatures up a half degree over four decades? What do we do about it?

In general, don't be wasteful, and don't take your environment for granted. If you just respect your environment, these political ideologs won't come and take away your freedoms and ravage the economy under government control in the name of environmental salvation.

But you shouldn't do these things out of fear of global warming; that would be akin to doing good works for fear of going to Hell.

Do it makes sense and because you respect your environment.

(and so some of the people above don't come in looking for a government take over of our private lives.)

You have evidence of your own if you truly look for it. How long has it been since you've seen a really good snow? Weren't winters colder when you were a child? Some say this is just perspective, but you can check out record highs and lows for your area and trends.

Although many people will say Earth goes through cycles and you shouldn't believe Al Gore, you also need to consider how we have changed the Earth in the past 100 years. The Amazon rain forest was called "the lungs of the planet" and it's been attacked by developers. The fires are so big you can see them from space. Each one of those trees, like those in North America, cleaned carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and replaced it with oxygen. At the same time, we are producing more carbon dioxide than Earth has ever seen before.

The problem is not just with trees. The oceans were filled with algae and kelp which also converted carbon dioxide to oxygen--replacing oxygen in the water. Now there are areas of the ocean where there are no fish because pollution has killed the plant life.

Keep an eye on the news. When you hear of fish die-offs and massive destruction of forests, remember that those are contributing to global warming.

You will NOT get the truth from the government or from big industry or from scientists supported by big industry. Find it for yourself.

...are you serious?

Okay. Trusted source: You.

Something that you can do, keep a journal for two full years. Monitor the dates, temperatures, humidity levels. These can all be measured at home. In two years, sit down, and note the increase each year.

There's your proof.

Not patient enough to do that?

Go to the library and check the weather reports over the last two years... you'll see each summer, has a 'record breaker' day but you don't see record breaker winter days anymore except precipitation levels.

So, now you have your proof. Now sit back and think of the effects. It effects EVERYTHING! Not just lawn watering bans... everything. From local smog alerts, health problems, to huge ecological messes.

I shudder.

Global warming is real and it has been around as long as the earth has. It's not caused by humans. Have you ever heard of an ice age? That's called global cooling. The earth goes through phases.

American Geophysical Union is the nations largest professional organization for scientists who study earth and planetary systems and processes. Forget about what Al Gore says, just read the AGU policy statement on Human Impacts on Climate. It is pretty hard to refute 100,000 scientists.
