With my first pregnancy the prenatal vitamins made me sick as well. I told the dr. and he said to take a childrens vitamin. I took Flinstones complete for the rest of my pregnancy and never got sick again after taking the vitamins. And yes the Flinstones had the proper amount of Folic Acid which is supposed to be so important when you are pregnant. I also had a friend who was told the same thing by her dr.

Are they OTC (over the counter)? Your dr. can give your prescription samples of different ones to take. Some smell less than the others, and are smoother to go down. Also, the saltines and gingerale thing works.
I have to take mine at night, bcuz' they make me nauseous after I swallow them. If nothing else, have your dr. prescribe you something for the nausea. It should get better after your 12 week or so.
Congrats, and good luck!

I am not someone who can take vitamins easily either. The smell and size makes it almost impossible for me to take them. I find when I take them with juice or chocolate milk it helps a bit. They also have vitamins and mineral in liquid form at the health food stores. You might want to check into that. Congratulations!

My best Friend is having the same problem and her doctor just prescribed her a chewable prenatal vitamin. She hasn't tried them yet so I do not know how they taste but I would just tell your doctor that you can't keep them down and see if she can prescribe something easier to take and easier on your stomach to digest.

first, the nausea is mostly in your mind, so don't get all worked up over taking the pills each time or you will make it worse. the idea of gingerale and saltines as a chaser or before (to make you thirsty) is also good. also try keeping gingersnaps around. ginger is a natural and safe way to help alleviate nausea.
oh and try taking them during a part of the day when you generally feel good. some women notice they are sick at certain times of the day, so try to avoid taking them during that time. gl and sorry to hear you are suffering so!

My wife could not handle the pre-natals for two reasons. 1st they were like horse pills, and 2nd, it did cause nausea. Remedy, the flintstone chewables worked for her, and then she found liquid vitamins. Talk to your doc to see which will work for you.
BTW- Another way to deal with Nausea is to get som ginger root and steep it, make a tea and drink.
God bless and congrats on the soon coming of a new arrival

Talk to your doc about trying Flintstones chewables with iron at least until youa re able to stand the smell of the other ones. Also try taking them before bed, not sure if that woudl help or not, I know it helps sometimes if they are makign you sick to your stomach. Goodl uck, jsut be sure to take soemthign cuase they are very important.

Not sure where you are located - but I took Pregnacare (no smell or nasty taste) which is one tablet daily with all the various things you need when your pregnant and maybe don't have a good diet.
