my computer is only about 8 weeks old and it started to act up, running slow, lost bacground picture for icons, closes programs very slow, and locks up very easy. I called tech support and they checked it out and said that there is a spywear virus in it and they could not remove themselves and that i would have to get a hold of a softwear tech but they will charge me for it, i am even willing to dump everything if that is what it takes, and just start over and reload everything. I need help with this and dont know if that will fix it, any ideas or any help on this will be so great,

Google these and download/run them:

Ad-Aware

SpyBot S&D

Make sure the definition files are all up to date before you run them.

You need two programs (maybe three). The two I recommend are SpyBot Search & Destroy and AdAware.

The can both be found on this page http://www.vermontpcsolutions.com/tools_spyware.html

Download, install and update both programs.

Restart your computer and tap the F8 key on your keyboard as the computer begins to start - this will give you the option of starting in Safe Mode - see more about running a computer in Safe Mode here - http://www.vermontpcsolutions.com/how_to_start_in_safe_mode.html

Run full system scans with both programs, they should be able to find the problems and remove them.

Restart the computer in "normal mode" and see what happens.

The third program which I find helpful is HiJackThis (for advanced user, the is a powerful tool!) and Windows Defender - which can be found here - http://www.vermontpcsolutions.com/tools_spyware.com

. I have used all of these programs on many computers. I have had a 100% success rate on removing spyware/adware and viruses.

I have also found that using MSCONFIG can be very helpful in removing spyware and adware - see more about MSCONFIG here - http://www.vermontpcsolutions.com/how_to_use_msconfig.html

Good Luck!

1. Spyware? Try adaware(free), spysweep(not free), and Spybot(free)
2. Virus? Delete the files... Let's say the virus is omgomg.exe. Open my computer, search for omg. Search is on the top. Some files may not be able to be deleted, so delete the other ones first. Before deleting, try ctrl, alt, and del. Click on the processes tab. Find the virus file and end it.
3. No success? Find your installation discs and call dell, gateway, or whoever makes you computer and ask them if they know how to reinstall windows.

Instead of constantly screwing with regedit, which doesn't always work anyway because most virus are smarter than to just let you delete them out of the registry, try avg free. It's a free antivirus program. And it's pretty small, it doesn't use a lot of system resources or totally screw your system up like mcaffee and norton.

you need the following tools - spybot - ad-aware - hijack this and cwshredder.

Start with hijack this and post details here but you can go ahead in the meantime and run cwshredder next. Then run spybot, then ad-aware.

Google will find these. If it is really natsy one then it may not allow you to connect to these sites to download the software. If this happens. Post a new question requesting someone to email you the software.
