It is a fact that on average females mature faster than males, dating a younger guy is less common cause often its assumed that the woman is taking advantage and often the woman feels she is.

Also, in the olden days women have to make decision carefully from an early age. If you want to be a mother, you have to makes sure spouse is suitable and children can be taken care of e.t.c and that you are fit and healthy enough to be doing all that child-rearing. You also have to sort all that out before menopause. Men on the other hand can be a father anytime of their life they don't have time limits so they can do that latter.

Though some of the rules still apply, nowadays older men still have more life experience and can offer more financial and physical security so most women do still go along that route. But there is an increasing number going the opposite way but they aren't that much.

Because of lingering societal expectations that the man excel above his wife in every way, and that the woman just be decoration. I think it is changing though. You are more likely to find a woman with a man much younger now than, say, 30 years ago, though I can't give statistics - I'm just going by what I read in the press.

Not to mention that I myself am not particular about age, I've considered both people up to 10 years older, and people up to 13 or more years younger. And no doubt it will be no surprise that I subscribe to a very egalitarian relationship model...

So bottom line: I think the question of whether the woman can be older than the man really does depend on people's model for relationships.

It's an age-old tradition. Men would graduate highschool, go to college, get a job and find a wife... (who didn't necessarily have to go to college and work so could get married at younger age)!
It's still "more accepted" for a man to be the older of the two... but it's not as big of a deal nowadays. I'm 7 years older than my hubby! (He's 24... and, ah, wel... you can do the math!)

Men are more immature so to have an equal partnership, he has to be older. I think the trend could change. Look at Demi Moore...go girl!

Girls are two years ahead in maturity...well thats what the facts say but just by putting a guy and a girl together you can tell someitmes its way more then two years and very rarely the guy is more mature then the girl

Women's mentalities are higher than men. So if we get a man that's older, then maybe they will be at our same level. Men act immature so we just hope the older ones are alittle more on the same page as us.

Women mentally and emotionally mature at a faster rate then men. So when women want someone on thier level, they are generally older then themselves.

Because women mature faster then men. If you go for a guy your own age, odds are you'll be babysitting all the time.
