For instance if another predominantly poor and black State was being targeted for nuclear attack, would the government just tell me to run and forget about me?

You need to do two things. 1st watch the documentary by Spike Lee about Katrina. 2nd you need to take into consideration what Barbra Bush said while visiting people in Houston that fled Katrina but had no where to go.

AND I QUOTE ""And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

And this is our president’s mother!!!! No wonder he did nothing to help the victims of Katrina. He stayed on vacation and let those people die all because they were poor, black, and were never going to help him achieve his political goals

Who would waste a bomb on a predominantly poor black state? In the event of Nuclear attack, I fully expect that we the people will be herded like cattle into detention centers and many will be shot on sight by our own government forces. Wake up to what Government really is! George Washington said "Government is not reason. It is not eloquence. It is FORCE!"

Here is a philosophy- sometimes things just happen. You can be really prepared to handle a crisis, but something may not work at the last minute. This may happen in small and big scales. What is important is how we recover.
Second philosophy - look out for yourself.Dont depend on some third person to help you....no matter what the crisis, have an exit plan.
Third philosophy - Count your blessings daily.

These three should hold true no matter how long you have been out of news or what happens.

Katrina was not a Black issue. It was a natural disaster! The poor citizens of New Orleans were not able to leave the city, and were caught in a horrific scene of devestation and death. No one let them sit in that swill simply because they were black. The city of New Orleans is notorious for corruption and poor political representation. The mayor, who is black, did not take care of his city like he should have. I am way too tired of this country saying that we always give blacks the short end of the stick. That same situation could have been exactly the same in a poor white southern area with inadequate resources in place.

It was not just poor black people that were screwed over on that deal, there were poor white ones to.

And no the government would not tell you to run, did you not learn anything from Katrina? They would wait 3 or 4 days and then say..Wow you should have ran!

Well stop assuming that your government is responsible for your actions ok? As an adult they should have all had the common sense to leave when they knew what was coming.Personaly responsibility heard of it? I dont care if I had only 5 bucks in the bank if I knew that storm was coming I would have done everything possible to leave. Not just sit around and expect the government to take care of me. That is not their job. The people were warned, they lived in a city that was below sea level, how could they not have seen this coming eventually. Its just so easy to blame the government for their response time, well how about blaming the people who stayed for being stupid?

As a blackman from Africa, and seeing things in America from the outside, I am sorry, but my answer is yes. Look at the situations with the building of the dikes, that says everything. It won't hold another Katrina. Financing the war in Iraq, and funding Israel is more important to Bush, who seem not to know about the old adage, charity begins at home...

Katrina made landfall toward the end of the month...all of the welfare check money was gone. If the hurricane had landed on the 8th or the 10th, there would have been a whole lot more people evacuated.

Those people were just waiting for someone to come and rescue them....they did not want to try to help themselves.

If you pay your taxes, they will not forget about you. A nuclear attack has a much shorter period for which people can be warned about it. The two are completely different.
