Goatstown (Baile na nGabhair in Irish) is a suburb of Dublin in the north of county Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown in Ireland. It is primarily a residential area, developed in the early decades of the 20th Century. It is roughly centred on the Goat Grill (known as "Dublin's Sporting Pub"), a pub at the intersection of Goatstown Road and Taney Road. There has been a pub there since the early 18th century. Charlie Chawke took over the pub in 1982, and changed the name from Traynor's to the Goat Grill. He was shot in the leg during an October 2003 robbery. Very sadly his leg had to be amputated shortly after the robbery. University College Dublin's Belfield campus is to the north. The Irish Glass Bottle's (I.G.B.) Clubhouse used to be situated in Goatstown slightly south of the famous Joe's chipper, which is still open today.
Goatstown got its name from the fact that the goats that were bred there produced milk which was considered to be very good for those suffering from Tuberculosis.
To the west is Dundrum, to the east is Deer Park, Mount Merrion and Stillorgan, to the south is Sandyford and to the north is Clonskeagh. The Luas transit system runs through the south-west corner of Goatstown and the Dundrum Luas stop is in Goatstown(main entrance off Taney Road). Irish rugby player Brian O'Driscoll resides in the area as well as famous Irish actors, Dave Kelly. To the East of the Goatstown road lies the alottments. The allotments are presently being built upon.
