What country and what nation? country and nation are one. If its US. You're humans - you guys are like kids in a candy store - everything is availabe at the reasonably cheap expense of child labor. Money, Goods and Drugs - Its called karma. Now you get a fat nation rearing fat children. Try to eat in moderation and not gluttony. Raise descent and non-selfish kids who think life is all for the taking while others starve and die per minute. Canada is following the US so watch out Canadians.

The AMA decided in its great wisdom (NOT) that a high carb low fat diet would by magic make us thin. As a nation we believed them, and as a result we eat a lot of carbs.

This diet is the perfect weight gain diet.

Fat in your mouth does not magically turn into fat on your body. Carbs in your mouth do magically turn into fat on your body.

If you want more, now we don't want the lazy ones here griping my answer was too long for their attention span, get a copy of the 1992 Atkins New Revolution Diet book. He explains exactly how carbs are turned into fat on your body.

I am not suggesting anyone actually try the diet, it is complex, and most of you want instant gratification, so you would not follow it and might hurt yourself, if you don' take the supplements. But, you can learn the theory of it.

Or, you can google for Eskimo Diet. There are no carbs on the ice floes.

I think one can find the answers in such films like "Supersize Me" and the book "Fat Nation". It has to do in part to a more sedentary (lazy) and self indulgent lifestyle that has become commonplace in our culture. Other cultures use their bodies more and have different diets, and often dont bulk up the way your average American has nowdays.

Before the Eighties in America, you never saw as many overweight people around as you do now, especially kids. Years ago it was quite rare and weird to see a fat kid, now it seems to be almost common, and oddly enough the heaviest people are often the poorest too.

I saw a rather interesting news segment the other day the discussed immigrants coming from countries who get addicted to refined sugar. They come to the U.S. never having eaten some of our sweet deserts. I suspect a large percentage of our obesity problems is simply related to the abundant availability of unhealthy food.

Let's face it, foods with lots of sugar or fat taste better than foods without that stuff. If we can afford it, we buy it. It is a lack of self discipline.

The nation do not cause one to get fat. People do it to themselves. People have spoiled themselves with available good foods and they just can't help but overeat with no control. So if you overeat you will get fat. Then again the rich countries have the money to buy more foods.

Back in the victorian ages, if you were fat or really fair skinned, then that meant that you had a lot of wealth. Now everyone wants to be tan (only the people who had to work outside were tan back then), and everyone wants to be skinny.

Because Americans eat more processed foods and are far less active than most other countries.

Americans have so much money they don't consider the consequences of their indulgences. They think they're impervious to issues and problems such as obesity.
