I indulged in the occasional glass of wine. Oh, and I didn't give up caffeine either.
Aside from the food poisoning, watch out for the mercury levels in the fish used in your sushi. Some studies have shown that high mercury levels (in some tuna and swordfish) can be bad for your baby. Otherwise, enjoy!

No. There's a reason there are certain things you shouldn't eat during your pregnancy.
Not only can you get food poisoning from sushi, you can also ingest mercury from the fish, which is harmful to your baby. It says so on the fresh sushi in our supermarket.
Why even put your baby in ANY harm? Even if it's just a little? if something is wrong with your baby, are you going to wonder every day for the rest of your life if it's because you had a few pieces of sushi here or there? And then regret that you did?

I am the biggest sushi fan too. I have resisted the raw stuff. I just eat the sushi that has cooked fish. Luckily I do love the california rolls and spider rolls so I am satisfied. And yes I also do things that they say not too. I do have things with caffine maybe 1 coke or cup of tea once a day, but dont over due it, and I might have a small glass of wine on occasion (maybe 1-3 a month). I asked the same questions to friends of mine that have kids and seems that just about all of them have "cheated" at some point. Oh and I do have a non alcoholic beer once in a while too.

Try not to eat "raw" fish. There are plenty of places that can make sushi with imitation crab meat or without fish altogether. Those are perfectly safe. I ate those during pregnancy. I also drank wine (at a rate of about 4 glasses/day) for the first 2 weeks of my pregnancy while I was in Italy (and didn't know I was pregnant). No harm came to me or my child (who is 3 now). I reduced wine consumption to half a glass every other day during pregnancy.

I was told not to eat any raw fish, so if the sushi you are having is the one with the raw fish it is dangerous, but if you eat the sushi rolls with no fish then you are safe.
However my doctor told me that food poison is bad for both mom and baby, I love sushi BUT I quit eating it just in case, I am NOT taking any chances of getting sick, I have decided to carry my baby full term with no complications.

many americans do not eat RAW sushi, you can still eat the cooked stuff. It is because the meat is as I stated, Raw and raw meats can have more bacteria on them. The cooking process kills the bacteria before we eat it. I refrained from eating all raw sushi, but I did go and eat some of the vegi rolls and cooked sushi but some refuse to even touch that stuff lol like cause it's in the same vicinity it must be contaminated as well. Then you could go to an asian country and they eat loads of the raw stuff and have no problems.

I'm a big sushi fan myself. Is there a way you can steer away from the raw fish? Eat california rolls, veggie rolls, something with shrimp in it since shrimp are cooked?
I would definitely stay away from TUNA. It's very high in mercury. It's not so bad out of a can, but fresh, raw tuna is... Swordfish is also bad.

well good job, sushi rocks. second of all, if you're eating raw fish, this could be bad for the baby. its like, the enzyms slow down their development. i dont remember where i read this but i know its true. i suggest you lay off the raw fish and stick with seaweed and sticky rick with red and green pepers and avacado (mmm, my favorite!)
