Do a little cleaning every day, if you let it pile up on you it's harder to keep up with it. Keeping clothes out of the floor would help a lot to, always put them in the hamper. Good luck.

IF you had the desire to keep it clean, you would. You asked for advice, so that your mother wouldn't yell 24/7, not that you truly desire a clean and organized room. When your priorities are in balance, you will find that keeping your room clean isn't that hard. Clean or pick up as you go or a little at a time, instead of waiting for a DAY to clean. Put to use the organizational skills taught to you by your parents and teachers. Put things in their place, when not in use. Do not leave drawers and doors open once your item has been retrieved. Don't take food/drink items into your room, eat in the kitchen or dining room. Do not throw hangers onto the floor! It takes just as much effort to re hang it in the closet. Ask your mom for organizational boxes or shelves. Get a friend to come over and work on it together while listening to music. The suggestions are endless, you just have to be willing to make the efforts.

Basically everyone here is right--clean it up but stay on top of it. One thing they are probably not touching on is that you probably have a lot of crap, being an only child and all. Your relatives and friends are probably showering you with gifts that you don't need and don't use. You're probably nice, and don't want to hurt their feelings by ridding yourself of that junk--and in return its piling up and cluttering up your room. It's time to throw stuff out! Go in and put the things you haven't used for over a year in a big garbage bag, then go donate it to one of your cousins or friends with a bazillion kids in his/her family who never gets anything new (or if you know no one who fits this description, donate your unneeded items to a local charity). When all your possessions are thing you need, use, or actually care about, keeping them clean and organized will be easier for you.

I clean a little every day. Have a place for everything. Put things away right when you get done using them. If you do a little every day, it never gets out of control. If it does start to get out of control for some reason, take a little extra time to fix whatever temporary problem you might have.
