Depending whether it is for bussiness or not, most governments allows you to bring up to $10,000 cash. However if I were you I rather put it in a bank and take the money out when I am there in Indonesia. That way no one can steal the money from you.
Where in Indonesia are you going to? Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Bogor? My boyfriend is from there, he was born in Jakarta.

Bring in as much as you can sneak into your carry-on luggage and don't tell them. People do that all the time. The 100,000,000 rupiah answer sounds about right - but remember that indonesia is totally corrupt - so if a govt person knows you have that much money - they will ask for some of it or throw you in jail to get it.
The other thing to do (if its a lot) is to wire several smaller amounts over.

i exactly know the maximum amount of money without taxed is 100,000,000 indonesian rupiahs or about 11,000 us dollars
but u don't have to bring much money to indonesia as everything is cheaper there (about 4-5 times cheaper than in new york),
i even bought a lunch in jakarta for only 5,000 rupiahs! (55 cents)

The maximum one can take out of the US is 5,000. One can be creative by using silver or gold eagles at face value and then selling them for the bullion price. This is legal.
