i hold down "select" and "menu" and it shows the apple sign in the middle of the screen but then goes off...
i cant get to any of the options or anything to listen to music.

I had this problem when i first got my video ipod, is it new? if so leave it on charge for more than the amount of time said on the instructions. Is your batterie dead? maybe put it on charge for a bit and see if it works then? and try restarting it again by holding down menu and the select button. There are also lots of forums about problem solving with ipods on the apple website. Hope this helps.

the most likeley problem is that yoru harddrive is messed up which happened to mine, but try restoring it first

if that doesnt work, and your still covered under apple care or warranty then call 1800 apple or www.apple.com or go to a apple store and they will take care of it for you

if your not covered and dont want to pay for service, i ebayed my ipod with broken hard drive for 140$

just a thought

Your battery most probably is dead or low. Try to install the program that came with your iPod in your computer. Maybe that will help.
