Well you sort of have to be skinny and it has to be a tunic like top and it has to be a wide belt.

Before it was the style, I wore a belt over my hips instead of the loops. A year later, everyone is wearing those horrid golden wide crochet type looking belts over tunic long style shirts with stripes and jeans and more metallic accessory crap; just be original already!
If you're going to wear a belt over your shirt, try to pull of something different. Instead of those ugly metallic wide belts, get a hippy style leather belt with flowers sewing into it or something; just something new or that's not seen around a lot.
Robots are not fun to look at.

I think it looks cute if paired with the right top and bottom. For example in order to achieve this look you may want to wear a longer shirt and maybe some skinny jeans or some leggings then put the belt on top. I like the look just as long as you don't wear it every single day... i hate when people overdo a trend..

Cute and fashionable for the slender. A definite no-no if your waist is where you carry most weight. It's all about knowing what works for your specific body type. Also the shirt should be one that complements a belt...like a tunic or a longer dress shirt.

Generally, if you are thin and pretty, you can wear anything and get away with it. Other people, tread softly, fewer things look good on you. I don't really like the look, but I don't think it is the most ridiculous style I've seen lately.

It's cute-originally an 80's style but they are starting to bring some of the 80's styles back this season.
