One place that I always enjoyed was Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island. You can travel there going over the Bay Bridge. It has awesome views of the whole Bay Area and is free and safe. With benches, paths old naval buildings to look at. If you don't have a car - MUNI should still run a bus route out there from the Transbay Terminal - but you might want to check.

Be sure to check out the Exploratorium, of course, and the "Camera Obscura" at Point Lobos before you "settle in" or you'll think it's for tourists and miss out on a spectacular & strange place!

There are always some wacky "yard sales" across the Golden Gate in Marin County, and there's a wonderful pub called The Pelican a ways up 101.

have fun...

It would be hard to pinpoint any one area, the city is such a great place. I think you would should visit every area of the city. There is such diversity here that you will be surprised, so many great restaurants and bars.

This won't help you but I'm so jealous. I miss SF.

Try one of those free newpapers. I think one is called the SF Guaridian. Lists everything you need.

I'M SO JEALOUS!!!!!!

Until you know your way around please be home by dark. Your family will appreciate it. Explore during the day 'til you meet someone from your school, who can show you the night spots. Use the buddy system, lol.
