London is expensive. That's just the way it is.
However remember the price quoted is what you pay, unlike so many US hotels that then charge city tax, hotel tax, and sales tax on top of the quoted price when you check out.
Discounts --ask for a corporate rate, use http://www.lastminute.com/ or ask your travel agent

Whenever I go to London I stay in Hostels. The one I have booked for my next trip is only 11 pounds a night. Its the Princes Hotel at 63 Princes Square, Bayswater. That is for a 4 bed dorm.

Everything is expensive in London (and most of the UK for that matter.) London's hotels will be even more expensive due its popularity with tourists. You can try hostels, some of them have private rooms.

If you really want to save money and don't care sharing the rooms with people. You can get a youth hostel . Really cheap and you could meet great people from all over the europe.
When i was there it was like 20pounds a night or something.
you could aslo get a discount by getting the bed (not a room) weekly.
But! remember! Always have your most important items with you .even at sleep!!

The Savoy has the terrific perspectives of the river, is close to theatre land and a few good eating places. The suites are superb and the grill is sweet. The Metro on Park Lane is extra cutting-area yet no longer so romantic. Sandersons is in demand yet in a naff area of Oxford highway. The Lansborough in the back of Oxford Circus is extra advantageous. Browns is interior the guts of Mayfair and extremely previous shaped and comfortable. (they in many cases used it for BBC era dramas like omit Marple) ignore the Dorchester, you may hear whats happening interior the room around the corner! Ugh. would favourites are Browns or the Savoy. you may't beat somewhat previous shaped class to make you sense particular.
