How many times have I asked this question? We spend billions on a war we do not belong in, yet, I am 100% sure every American will go to bed tonight with a full belly and a roof over their head, with the correct medication they need to help them live 1 more day.
I have no idea when we will take care of our own. Our elderly have a choice on a daily basis, do I pay for my medication or do I eat. They are tossed aside like yesterdays cat littler.
You hear words like welfare reform, phrases like no child left behind but to translate that it means..QUICK LOOK OVER THERE WHILE WE DROP ANOTHER BILLION ON THE WAR.
My community held a block party to raise enough money to help the teachers at our local grade school to help them buy school supplies not only for kids who's families can not afford it,but also to help the teachers so they do not have to take so much out of their pockets to buy supplies.
The Government cant buy a pack of Crayons, but they can buy a bomb.

1. Half of americans live in poverty without health care - where did you get that? So dumb and wrong it doesn't deserve a response.
2. Many states refuse to even raise minimum wage - It is not suppose to be a lifetime job. You are supposed to begin there and move into a better job.
3. I just want to know, when someone is gonna stand up and fight for OUR rights - I think the other guy leaning against the McDonald's sign is going to do something, let's just wait and see what he does.
4. instead of trying to run other countries - I can walk and chew gum, can you?
5..We are the voters, why don't we put someone in there, we want in there - we did, his name is George Bush

you may wish to check your assumptions. I just saw on CNN that 26.9% are below the poverty line and only 45 million are without health care INSURANCE (which is a big difference from being without healthcare). This in a country just short of 300 million citizens. Most of the uninsured are young adults who are now too old to be on their parents plans and either aren't concerned about it yet because they are in good health or are just starting employment and not under company insurance yet. I did not have health insurance for 7 years (23-30) and never worried about it.
I appreciate your concern for the country, but we also spend more than six times the amount of money at the federal and state levels to raise every one of the 26.9% out of poverty but much of it is wasted in bureaucratic corruption and ineptitude. Mind you, this is while the war in Iraq is going on and does not include private charities. I hope you'll focus your efforts on helping clean up the waste, which will benefit the poor more than throwing more money into the pit.

I just saw in the paper that only 1/8 of Americans live in poverty. I'll believe that story before I believe yours. Most people in poverty don't have education and end up working part time jobs.
Since when has it been the responsibility of the government to solve this problem? People in poverty are defended and given every opportunity to get an education and not get knocked up, but it still seems to happen.

First of all, with all due respect, it's morons like yourself that are in poverty, because you're ignorant beyond words. America has more opportunities for people than any other country on earth. If you're a low life, loser (an adult) that makes less than min wage, or even min wage you've got no one but yourself to blame. It's my guess that those of us whom aren't "in poverty" are taking care of morons like you with our tax dollars. Go to North Korea, Cuba, or China, and THEN piss and moan about America. Also, another great freedom America has is your freedom to get the eff out if you're so unhappy. Alec Baldwin didn't feel the need to utilize that freedom, and I'd be willing to bet, you won't either, so utilize the freedom to STFU.

I have just read the other entries and cannot believe that no one addressed the horrendous toll Americans are paying because of the presence of 20+ million illegal aliens. Please note that Legal Immigration is what this country is all about. That has NOTHING to do with illegal aliens, mostly Mexico and Latin America's poorest of the poor, uneducated and mostly illiterate. Do you not understand that corporations and big business and small business hire THEM, not you. The building trades - construction, remodelling, etc. now employ primarily illegals. Do you not understand that this means no employment for young people in well paid jobs traditionally a boon to minorities, especially blacks. Illegals undermine our entire wage system, i.e. living wage, because they will work any job - including professional jobs (e.g. nursing, social work and on up) - for the prevailing wage or much, much lower. Do you not understand that half the money they make in this country - legally or illegally - is sent back to Mexico? Our government sees very little in the form of taxes to support all the services a government MUST provide. Have you not been reading the newspapers, news magazines or listening to talk radio? There are hundreds of gangs all across the country comprised of illegal alien youths who murder, rob, steal, sell phony I.D. documents, including social security cards with, perhaps, your number on it and import, manufacture and sell drugs? Have you not seen the destruction of the American culture in the major cities? Come to Los Angeles, a former great city, now 40% immigrant, almost all illegal, per the L.A. Times. Yesterday in the city of Maywood in LA County "Reconquistas" tore down the American flag on the post office and raised the Mexican flag and stood there wearing the ski masks typical of terrorists. Maywood is now almost all Latino and is a "sanctuary" city for illegals. The city council is scared out of their political gourds as is the mayor - a white guy - and they goosestep to Mexico. I have no more energy at this point to go on. I guess I must get into this in depth on my blog.
The Republicans are beholding to big business, local and international and do not want secure borders. Alqueda figured that out years ago and terrorists are in Mexico training to look, talk and walk like an indigenous Mexican as they come across the border illegally. Democrats will sell out America to regain power and have in California where you often find yourself in Tijuana. Vote out the incumbents who have not voted to secure the border first and a work program later. Get together and get mad!!!
As Howard Beale, in that great film, Network, yelled out the window of his broadcasting studio, "I'm mad and I'm not going to take it anymore."
Again, I am shocked that as I began writing this no one before me even mentioned this assault on our sovereign nation and our ability to financially continue to pay for all the services for the illegals. Shocked.

half huh? You get different numbers than I do. We have out of control costs on the welfare programs that we have now. Personally I would like to see these programs reduced dramatically. The poor get healthcare. So your facts are incorrect there too.
