I believe in freedom of thought, consciousness and the right to do whatever you want with yourself, although I believe some drugs are extremely destructive and should not be taken by anyone I also believe it's no ones right to tell someone what mental state or frame of mind they can be if they are not hurting anyone, and I also believe people have the freedom to do things injurious to themselves if they wish even though it is a bad idea and trying to ban that really takes away a huge amount of freedom.

Historically drug use of one kind or another has always been condoned - excess has been decried. It has only been the last 100 years that drug use has been illegal and in truth this has been prompted by organized crime syndicates through thier bought and paid for politicians. Also The 1920-1930 hollywood (controlled by organized crime) put out silly scare tactic movies ala "reefer madnes" . The only people who benifit from illegality of drugs are the illegal distributers - if they were legal they could be controlled like tobacco and alcohol ( age restrictions) taxrd which could be used to for treatment for abusers.
Drug use in moderation can enhance creativity _ see Alice in wonderland and medical research has shown how thc can help alleviate glaucoma and deal with side effects of chemo. so in my mind the benefits of legality outweigh the drawbacks

Drugs can be used for pain relief, relaxation and spiritual enlightenment. They become bad when they are used as a crutch, become a bad habit or the person is not emotionally prepared for what is revealed to them while under the influence. All drugs harmful to the physical health should be avoided.

Its very simple. If I choose to put something into my body (provided I'm not at work or caring from children/elderly, or for goodness sake driving) then I don't see how it is any ones business or concern if I do. It IS my body, right? And if it kills me (as does both alcohol AND tobacco) who cares? It is MY life, my body and I should be allowed to make choices as such. As long as I am not responsible for the welfare of someone else, or operating heavy machinery, I see no problem in drug use for recreational, medicinal whatever purpose.
Do what you want, but hurt no one.

I live in California and there are many powerful arguments for using medical Marijuana for serious illness like cancer, and glaucoma. I feel that if it helps a person it should be allowed, but i do not see any use clinically for any other illicit drug out there today. others that were formerly used like cocaine have superior versions available today.
of course i am omitting mention of legal drugs being illegally obtained and used for recreation. there is no need for that.

My personal view - We regulate some things (alcohol, tobacco) and illegalize others (marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines).

I believe, if legalized, there could be regulations on these drugs that would make the general population safer (having to do with consumption while driving, etc.). And also, they could be taxed, just as alcohol and tobacco are, as a source of revenue to help with the cost of regulation.

As is, we're just shelling out tax dollars for this so-called "war on drugs."

I wouldn't go throwing a party, if I found out my best friend started using heroin, but I also wouldn't condemn her for smoking marijuana to ease her pain if she had cancer!

The term “drug use” is a very loose term which generalizes the entire population of people who are taking drugs and usually has a negative emphasis.

All drug use is circumstantial…
The mother who’s husband would beat her starts taking heroin to ease the physical and emotional pain of her constant beatings so as to take care of her child.
The homeless man who drinks alcohol to keep him warm when he has no shelter.
The schizophrenic who smokes marijuana to calm the voices so as to blend into normal society.

It’s the ADDICTION to the drugs that is the problem and as most drugs make a person feel better than their life makes them feel, then it is quite easy to become addicted.

For a happy and productive life, drug "use" should not be condoned. And of course, we can ask ourselves what is used for "medicine" or "useage" or "abuse".

But for entertainment purposes, it is a cause for concern. While I can't recommend casual drug use, what society as a whole shoud do about it, - is another question. I lean towards libertarianism. If you want to kill yourself, -then fine. But don't ask me to pay your hospital bills either!

Drugs alter your mind and your thought processes, therefore, it alters reality. So if you think about it, you are never living reality except how drugs have a spiraling effect on your life and will bring you down.
