Sounds like a problem with vacuum tubing or vacuum controls. In the early 1990's Chrylser products had a defect in vacuum hoses. If the transmission had to down shift while going up a hill, the A/C would shut off and the heater blower would blow air thru the defroster vents. That was fixed with a recall.

Well, of course there could be a mechanical problem, but it also can be a design feature. More than once I have seen manufacturers design in a compressor shutoff when the engine is accelerating hard in order to reduce the drag on the engine temporarily and thereby aid in its ability to accelerate. As I recall, my old VW Rabbit had that setup in 1980. I think my 97 Jag also does that.

DOES IT COME BACK TO THE DASH AFTER YOU LEVEL OUT ON THE POWER IF SO THEN YOU HAVE A VACUUM LEAK SOMEWHERE IN YOUR ENGINE COMPARTMENT A ND IT IS TAKEING THE VACUUME AWAY FROM YOUR AIR CONTROLLER FOR YOUR HEATER BOX. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS FIND YOUR VACUUM RESIVOIR IT LOOKS LIKE A BIG BLACK BALL WITH ONE VACUUM HOSE RUNNING TO IT TAKE THAT VACUUM HOSE OF WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING AND SEE IF THERE IS VACUUM THERE IF THERE IS THEN YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROLLER ITSELF, IF YOU HAVE NO VACUUM THERE THEN YOU NEED TO START LOOKING AT Y OUR VACUUM LINES AND FIND THE ONE THAT IS DRY ROTTEN AND CRACKED AND REPLACE IT.

vacuum problem, definately. Could be in the vacuum source but it is probably the control head.
