No he is not. I know he was a great player and had a great game , notice I say had and not has. Somewhere between his being a captain and being a player he stopped being a player and got full of it being a Captain... and got unnecessaily involved in politics instead of being a player!
So yes he is not a need for the Indian team !

Yes he is unnecessary in the eyes of Greg Chappel, Kiran More and Rahul Dravid. So long as these guys are at helm of affairs, he would remain to be unnecessary for the Indian team.
As a matter of fact, he deserves a place in the side for one dayers.

you can't say so. all indian cricket fans are thinking off this including rahul dravid, selector kiran more, etc.

ganguly is a good batsman, batting right-handed he's cover drives are off a beauty. he can also loft shts for sxes, tec.
but he wasts too many bals. he's strk-rate is low , lesser than r dravid in odis.
ganguly bowls a right-arm medium which is superb. but still india hve more good bowlers like zaheer, pathan or even harbhajan. e ven sreesanth is coming in brilintly. if you see sreesanth batting for india b last october, you can see his swing his bowling a bility, etc. munaf is very fast. rp singh too delighed indian audien ces during his first matches. all bowlers are superb. so proba bly there's no place for ganguly.
