Okay I need some help with my P.O.S. Neon. And please no remarks on how I'm dumb for buying the neon in the 1st place because I already know this! I Hate this car already. Its been one problem after another and I'm trying to sell it but now I have a check engine light on.
Okay so I was able to pull the code off the dash and its P0743 which I found it means I have a problem in my TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOL/TRANS RELAY CIRCUIT. Has anyone had this problem before and how expensive is it going to be to fix? I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is cheap, I really don't want to put another penny into this car. Can anyone help me?

Well of course it's not going into overdrive !!! That's because it's a 3 SPEED transmission, which also means there is not solenoid pack to unbolt.........Neons only ever came with a 3 speed transmission. Your problem could be a few different things. Something as simple as the connector not plugged all the way in, to a defective TCC solenoid. This solenoid in on the valve body and can be easily replaced. I'd suggest taking it to a professional because allot of the advise/answers on here will lead you on a wild goose chase because some people don't even know what model of transmission you have. In any case, you won't need a transmission rebuild for this problem so if a shop says you do, just tell em, See Ya !!!. This is not an expensive problem to fix. In our shop a similar problem would run up to a maximum of around 300.00 CDN to fix.

Yes my brother had this problem, and it only cost $350 I think. He has a 95 Neon. Neon's are not crap, you just get what you pay for. They are cheap transportation that is only meant to get you around. If you treat them right, and are willing to work on them, then they are good cars. So don't go around telling people that they are bad, it is your fault for not knowing the problems that this car has. The problems usually happen all at once, then it should be OK for about a couple years. My brother had his 95 Neon for about 40,000 miles, on top of the 60,000 it came with. It is still going strong, and he plans on keeping it on the road till it hits 300,000 miles. Only buy a Neon if you are ready to work on these things. They are however great cars, if you put a little care into them.

You can unbolt the solenoid pack and clean it. The solenoids have small screen filters that get clogged.
The solenoid packs are available on the internet.
