Can anyone tell me the appeal of this movie? My kids loved it but I was completely bored to worse than tears..... It was AWFUL!

Is it because I'm just an old fogey now or what?

It is not that you are an old fogey. I will be someday. The jury is still in session on that movie, but I did get something from it.

The movie is a lesson on how it is good to find and be yourself.

ND is a totally different than any kind of film I have ever seen before. It truly is a cross between Monty Python and Tommy Boy. Many people hate it with a passion. I can understand that. It's not the kind of humor that many people like. My parents do not get ND at all. However, all my friends think it is one of the best comedies ever made. This is much like the movie Easy Rider. I think it is one of the most pointless movies ever made, but I also did not live through the 60's, so the whole point of the movie is lost on me. For those of us who grew up in the 80's/90's, this movie makes more sense. Yes, the humor is VERY dry and it is a slow movie (which I think makes it better.) I would say if your over 30, it's very unlikely that you will like ND, but give it a try, you might like it. If you don't like it, then don't bad mouth it, it just wasn't meant for you.It is nice to see such a clean movie. I wouldn't call it a family film, but it can be watched by people of all ages without worries.

I agree, that movie was terrible and I am a young male at 22.

Some movies gain a odd cult following such as Nepoleon, Rocky Horror Picture Show, American Pie series and most Will Ferrell movies. For some reason certain groups love the movie when in essence they are horrible and a waste of time.

Nappoleon: Stay home and eat all the freakin' chips, Kip.
Kip: Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.
Napoleon Dynamite: Since when, Kip? You have the worst reflexes of all time.
Kip: Try and hit me, Napoleon.
Napoleon Dynamite: What?
Kip: I said come down here and see what happens if you try and hit me.

It's just endearing... because it's really about nothing... except a bunch of "outcast" kids who try to get though their crazy lives -- with each other's help and support. A lot of people can relate to the simple, oddball characters and the anticlimactic charm of this movie. (Hey... there's no drug use, foul language or sexual content... As a parent, you should LOVE this movie, too!)

I agree. It was so bad we turned it off after about 40 minutes and I'll never watch it again. I'm 30 and I know that's not old. Maybe to an 18 year old it is. But everyone who told me they liked it also said they were stoned or drunk when they went to see it. Well, geez, anything is funny when you are wasted.

I thought it was funny, but I didn't understand the point of it. I liked it, but I was frustrated with it because I kept looking for a theme, or some kind of comments on life or society, but it just wasn't there. It frustrating because they could have had some deep meaning to it, but it was just not there.

Napoleon Dynamite requires a few viewings in my eyes to be truly appreciated. I didn't like it the first time either, but before long you'll be a member of the "happy hands" club.

I'm an old poot & I *love* the movie. The characters, the dialogue, the acting. Campy film, but well done.

A lot of people don't like it though, young people included. So it's not because your old. =]
