Probably. Good QB, on a nationally-ranked team with a good shot at vying for the National Championship, plenty of exposure (I'm pretty sure every single one of their games is nationally televised), and Notre Dame is due. Fiesta Bowl aside, if he puts up the kind of numbers he did last year and the Irish win 10+, he will have a very good chance at winning. Even if Notre Dame doesn't win the national title, he should still have a pretty good shot. A national championship is not a prerequisite for the Heisman as Reggie Bush and Wisconsin's Ron Dayne have demonstrated recently. That said, it certainly helps.

Troy Smith is enormously plenty a lock this 12 months. Brady Quinn won't take abode the trophy, yet he gets the extra effective prize of being the genuine QB chosen interior the NFL draft (and the pay that is going with it). Troy Smith is somewhat undersized to be a real determination interior the NFL, yet he's the genuine performer in this NCAA season.

Depends how the Irish do this season. If they go all the way to the BCS Championship game, he probably wins it. If they stumble to say a 9-3 record... they'll give the award to someone else.

Maybe, If ND flops this year then no. But another year like last year and he has a good shot. Let's be honest if not for one of the luckiest bounces in the history of football ND beats USC and finishes the regular season with what 1 loss? Obviously AJ Hawk and the OSU defense was as good as it gets so don't place much stock in that game.
