I have never heard of such a thing.
In fact, if I were the boss, I would consider that unprofessional.
The boss already hired you because he/she thinks you are valuable right? Then prove true to that and remain friendly, professional, proactive, and punctual. Those traits are what will get you the big promotion. Save gift giving for a more appropriate time.
Besides, it feels a whole lot better to know you worked your way toward the top, rather than bribing the boss.

In some places that's probably illegal (both the quick promotion and possibly the subtle bribes to get it) but happens all too often. It depends if your boss is a man or a woman though - I don't think the same trick would work if your boss was a woman and you were a man!

If she gave her boss a gift just because she wanted to that is great that it worked out to her better, but remember it may not always be that easy so take this opportunity to really prove what her can do and that the decision to promote her was not on vain

there are three possibilities here
1. when a new boss moves in they like to search out the most popular person in the department and get them on side cos they are useful.
2. the boss sees your friend as a sucker who will do her job for her and take the rap when things go wrong. for a management consultant, or chainsaw consultant as i call them that won't be long.
3.the boss fancies your friend and wants to get her kit off
of it is always possible that the boss is good at what she does and recognises talent when she sees it

Be very nice to he/she and they will like you. Also work hard,be nice, and always do your best. And don't give him/her a gift because it's like forcing them to give you a promotion but they don't think so. And you should work hard to get a promotion and maybe Sam will do a horrible job and you'll get the promotion. And that's how you should treat your boss on the very first day. ............................. I know I'm good. sssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Treat them the same everyday. Your friend Sam gave her boss a little more than Jewelery. She probably got his family jewels and a pearl necklace.

I sincerely doubt that story is true, a professional boss will be looking for someone who can carry their own on the playing field.
A lover buys you jewellery not a sub-ordinate.

Maybe your friend is promoted to some other position other than the job itself. I think there is something fishy there. First of all, who give gifts on first day on the job anyway.

Depends on the personality of the boss. Listen very carefully & pick up on clues.
