I've been told it's because there is air in my power steering pump. Is this true? If so, how do I remove the air? 2001 Toyota Tacoma V6 3.4L.

Modified my answer..check the tension on the belt. The belt could be loose or worn.

i own a repair shop,,and a lot of vehicles will squeak when cut deep enough,,from side to side and its not air all the time that causes it,,most of the time the belt can be tightened,,just a little to stop it,,by default the pump will remove any air that gets in the system,,as ,long as it has the proper amount of fluid in it also the system will not allow air in it,,as long as it does not get below the fill line in the reservoir,,i bought a new car,,and when i cut the wheels all the way,it squeaked a little,,the air doesn't cause the squeak,,the pump,,and the belt cause it,,i been at this for 35 yrs,,i hope you find this help full,,good luck with it.

Most belts do make a noise when you turn it to the stop of your steering wheel. You can also have a loose belt and be low on fluid., but if you turn the wheel hard enough to make it hard against the stop it will make a noise.
