A temperature of 105 or higher for more than an hour can start causing damage inside the body. My pediatrician gave me the 103.5 rule about bringing my son in. If the fever is 103.5 for more than 4 hours, bring him in. I was told to use motrin, then 2 hours later tylenol, etc etc. Staggering the two helps drop the fever faster if it's something that will drop at home. So, basically, my Dr. said, " if the staggered fever reducers don't work (hence the 4 hours), then bring him in." You can always call other pediatricians, or the hosp, and see what they say. Ask 10 ppl, get 10 different answers. Getting socks and soaking them in rubbing alcohol, then putting them on your child to wear, for no more than 20 minutes, can greatly help reduce fever. If you leave them on longer than 20 mins it can get in their bloodstream and cause toxicity. Always use cool items, never cold. Same with foods and fluids while they have fevers. If you give them too many cold things, it will cause shivering, which is the bodies natural way to INCREASE body temperature. So, if your child starts to shiver, you've overdone it.

Give them the tylenol or motrin, and if the fever does not lower within an hour or so, bring them to the ER or the doctors, they could have an infection.
Fevers are very difficult to deal with as a parent, but our doctors also gave us the 105 degree rule too.

The question is can yu get the fever to go down with tylenol or motrin ? I would give the child some motrin or tylenol, then give it an hour or so and check temp again. Cool compresses can help. But word of caution. Do not apply ice, ice cold water or alcohol rubs.... they can reduce the fever too quickly and cause convulsions.

You can wait until 105. Fevers are the body's natural deterrent to infection. It's a normal thing to get. Old Wive's Tale's make you think your kid's brain will get fried. It's not the case. Just treat with some Tylenol and maybe a lukewarm bath.

If the fever gets worse and lasts longer than 4 hours I would take her in. Check it every half hour to see if tylenol is working. If it isnt I would call the doc, or if it gets above 105 I would take her in.

oh my little brother had a fever of 102.5 and the doctors didnt do anything, they just said give his tylonal and motrin, and he started to have siezures. Go to the hospital becuase you do not want your daughter to have siezures most kids have them if there fever is high. if the temp is 101 and higher bring her to the ER

if your childs fever goes to 105, she will have a SEIZURE! a temp of 101 and above is indicative of an infection. a temp of 103 may be more serious. i would take her to the er and find out about switching doctors!

I would have gone as soon as I saw that the fever was steadily increasing. Take her ASAP! That doc is foolish to say such a thing. Fevers in kids a MUCH more unpredictable. I waoud say to GO NOW!!!!!
