We're not.. there are many countries ( unfortunately ) that have them. Israel, Pakistan, India, Russia, North Korea etcetcetc...
the bigger question is why are we back to stock piling them ? there is already more than enough to turn the planet into glass.. we need more, they need more..? war is not the answer kids... and if there is one culprit in all this arms re-build up.. it is the US .. again, We are now a threat to any sovereign nation post 9/11.. with self proclaimed unilateral military might .. if we feel that you are a "threat to our interests" " are harboring or aiding terrorists" " are planning a picnic without us" then we will have to come and kick your a$$... that is making the entire planet less safe, unfortunately...

Because people belive if there are less countries with nuclear weapons, there would a lesser chance to have a nuclear war. These people need to wake up. One, the USA is not the only nation with nuclear weapons. India, France, Russia and a couple more nations have or at least denied having these weapons. Interesting how Russia and the USA almost went to nuclear war but were stopped when both nations found out that both have nuclear weapons. Ironically, the pressence of nuclear weapons could be a detterant because nations would think twice deloying these killers on other nations since the other nuclear capable nations could retaliate with their own nuclear weapons.
The reason why the USA do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons because that would prevent the USA from invading Iran... plain and simple... if they have the bomb, we can't just go in and take over the oil (per Operation Iraqi Freedom). As for Korea, who knows what they have and this stems from the old Cold War days.. so really, it's a complicated issue that is not the lone responsibility of USA... it is the responsibility of all nations to police and control and if possible prevent any production of nuclear weapons.

We don't believe that we're the only ones who should have the weapons. What we are trying to stop is thugs and dictators from using nuclear weapons to threaten the rest of the world.
It's the same reason that some people are allowed to own firearms and some are not. It's a matter of whether or not your past behavior has shown that you can be trusted with power.

We are not, dingeldorf.
Russia, China, France, England, India, and Pakistan all have admitted to having nuclear weapons. Also probably Israel and North Korea.
Next question?

We're not. Eight countries do: US, UK, France, China, Russia, Pakistan, India, and Israel. And not one of these countries have used one in the last 61 years.
