i am on medication but not sure if it is working

Have your levels checked again.
Your dosage may need to be increased or even decreased.
It took me several tries to get the right one. Since your body changes over time, your Dr should be checking your levels at least every six months.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland) at the age of 8, I am 19 now and weigh 96 lbs at 5 feet tall. I'm not overweight ... but thats just one case out of millions. Some people have no weight issues and others can be either too small or too large.

I gained weight until the Dr. got my meds right. I gained 15 pounds in a month. Worse than that was being exhausted constantly. Its been 12 years and I'm "normal" now.

I was diagnosed as being hypo about 12 years ago. I gained 60 lbs. in 2 years before my doctor would believe me! Always ask for your TSH number. NEVER believe your dr. if he says you are "normal". Normal for you may be different than normal for someone else. I had to find a doctor that believed that and she put me on meds. I lost 25 lbs. in one month and have never felt better!

well i gaines 23 pounds in 1 month before the doc figured out what was wrong. now on meds and still gaining so............ doc says it takes time to readjust ur body i have been on pills for 4 months now

My aunt has hypothyroidism and my fiance has hyper.... neither of them are fat. I think it all depends on the person and their daily activities. And of course their medication. If they dont get it right, you COULD get fat.
