Someone said diet and hygiene, but I know people who clean themselves and eat the same things but still smell different.

Smell composed of what?
There is some glands that secret some fluids on female genitalia. They also secret some fatty fluid. And other contents are determined by what you eat what amount. And also your metabolic state is important for your smell.
What about hygiene? Hygiene is important about infections. Infections especially yeast (ex:candida) infections smell very bad due to putrification. If washing frequency increases than accumulation of dead epithelium (a layer of skin) decreases. Than spontaneous putrification declines so bad smell ceases.

Everyone has a natural smell to their bodies. It could be from an infection if it's really bad....but if it's not...it's probably just their smell. Everyone should find a mate that has a smell that isn't offensive to them. If for some reason you dislike your own smell...it could be because you are using scented pads...they make the smell worse....infection...hygiene......or something like that. I'm not an expert on this sort of stuff....but I do know that different men taste different when I've kissed them in my life.....

How do you know how a whole bunch of women's areas smell?
I think it depends on how much discharge you...discharge. Everyone is different, regardless of diet. I asked my gyno, and she said that some people have a whole lot, and some people have almost none.
But I think that contributes to smell.
