I'm sorry to hear about your loss of your pet. You didn't say what kind of pet that you had to put to sleep. I have told my kids that you have given the pet a good life, you have fed and watered and kept them healthy for as long as you had it. We don't know why these things happen, but if you did all that you could do for your pet and know that in your heart; it will make you feel better and in time the pain will get easier. I am wondering if your pet might have been a Hamster or Gerbel as they do not have a long life span. Mice and Rats live about four years also. Love the pet that you now have and do all that you can for it. Wish you well.

i had a cat die at 15 years old she made it threw the ice storm but died the next day in my arms as i was driving to the vet.
it was sad she had no teeth left, so i had to give her wet food, she was alleric to fleas so every time a flea bit her she would rip out the fur so she had all these bald spots on her. She was in and out of the vet they couldn`t do anything for her.
i remeber when i was younger i used to dress this cat up in a bonnet and push her around in a baby stroller. it was 15 great years and it hurt alot when i lost her. But all i can say is she had the greatest 15 years of her life she shared with me,all i can do is rember her and now shes with God looking down on me, i know she is my guardian angel and i will never forget her.
the crying will stop eventlly trust me but you`ll never forget her, keep her in your paryers and save a other pet.
i now have 4 horses, cat, dog and rabbit.

I've had many animals over the years that have been very precious to me. It is extremely hard when they die. They are a part of your family and grieving for them is natural. I have a garden that I plant different flowers or put different markers in as a reminder of them as a way of showing respect. And also take lots of photos of them while I have them just in case, because you never know how long they will be with you.
It will pass in time.

Mine did. My old dog got put to sleep and I didn't even get to say goodbye. Don't worry - before you know it you'll get a new pet and the good times will replace the bad.

I've had three dogs die and I now have a bunny who stays in my room and I really love her... I can't imagine how I'll survive if she dies but I know you can find help from grief/healing books.
Some people may think its crazy to get so attached to a pet but they just don't understand that it's like losing a friend.
Go check out sites on grief counselling or depression, just to get tips on how to cope. I've linked a pet loss support website and some other helpful sites.
Hope they help!

Yes. Some had to be put down due to old age and its accompanying diseases destroying any quality of life. One was killed by a hit & run driver on purpose. I miss them all.
You don't "get over it", but the hurt is easier to live with day in and day out. It took me 5+ years of grieving before I would open my heart to another cat. I still miss my dog.

Yes
To make matters worse, we think our dog was poisoned by one of our former neighbors children (but we could never prove it)
He was only three, and he hemorrhaged to death, we took him to a specialist and ended up putting 4 thousand dollars on our credit cards to keep him alive all to no avail.
We were desperate because he was my wife's dog and she loved him, and was so distraught - she was 8 months pregnant (and I thought she would go into labor from the stress)
pretty sad.

We lost our dog that we had for 16 years. We got him when he was 6 months. I was lost, so much so I had this void in my life. I miss him very much but I went out two weeks later and got a new dog. She helps a lot, you might want to try it. It helped me. By the way, I'm sorry for your loss.

Yes my cat Socks died because of Petco. They gave us this flea package to get rid of his fleas. They told us to put the tube on his skin between his shoulder blades. So my mom did and when she came home from work the cat was having seizures. He chewed off his own tongue. Come to find out Petco put the wrong flea tube in our package, it was for dogs and it killed him.
