Most toxic venom in the US: Coral snake- but few people are bitten by this relative of the cobra.

Most dangerous in US: Timber rattlesnake- the species that combines a strong venom with being common and living near people.

Not all venomous snake bites are deadly:
1.) Not all bites are envenomated- they often deliver 'dry bites' designed to scare you without using valuable venom.
2.) Humans are MUCH bigger than their usual prey, so not all venomous snakes produce enough venom to hurt an adult. Copperheads, for example, have very mild venom, and not much of it.
3.) Many venoms are designed more to pre-digest and weaken than to kill. In humans, the stuff often causes lots of pain, but rarely deaths- only about a dozen deaths in the US per year- and most are young, hurt, or hunters.

North Carolina has these venomous snakes:
- Eastern Coral snake
- Copperhead
- Cottonmouth (or Water Moccassin)
- Timber Rattlesnake
- Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake
- Carolina Pygmy Rattlesnake

Most poisonous in the world is tricky. There is a sea snake that is incredibly deadly, but doesn't bite people. The common answer to this is the Inland Taipan (Fierce snake).

Mojave green is the most in the US, Inland Taipan for the world. There are actually a decent amount of poisonous snakes in NC (I'm in SC). Copperheads, Pygmies, Canebreaks, Cottonmouths are actually around, although people claim they aren't.

Yes, any poisonous bite could kill you, but all of the local hospitals around NC/SC carry antivenin for the local snakes, so don't panic if something does happen.

Keep him away from woodpiles, creeks, swamps, places with lots of hiding spots for the snakes, and he'll be fine.

Get a dog, they tend to find snakes pretty easily, if you do have any.

I live in MO and although people get bit by copperheads there are no reported deaths from them that I could find. But they make you really sick.
I think the worst in the states would be a coral snake in the SW then rattlesnake. Check out the links.

..... in the u.s.a it would be the mojave green rattler.
in the world.... australia's fierce snake.
yes you can potentionally die fron any poisonous snake bite but not all are common. with anti-venin you have a great chance of surviving ( unless you are allergic to it ) but the most dangerous and docile of the poisonous snakes would be the sea snake... green beaked watch your son and don't let him rome outside or in bushes or woods and he'll be fine and teach him to stay away from all snakes for now good luck and i hope i have been of some help.

poisinous snakes in the USA:

rattlesnake--many species, timber, eastern diamondback, western diamondback, several more

coral snake--most potent venom, but rarest of poisonus snakes in US. also it is not very aggressive

copperhead

water moccasin

Can you die?-- yes, but not likely, it depends upon age, your health, type of snake bitten by, location of bite, how quick to hospital

all 4 types live in NC. the western species of rattlesnake do not. most likely to encounter in NC--rattlesnake or copperhead.

eastern rattlesnakes prefer some trees around, especially pines. dry areas.

copperheads prefer to live near water

Good luck finding a poisonous snake anywhere in the world. What you do have to worry about are venomous snakes in your area.

the north american coral snake is probably the most venomous. (no anti-venom) however they are rare and small and cannot bite well. really worry about eastern diamond backs and of course the water moccassin in your area. the copper head is venomous but their venom is not very potent

coral snake - but not the most dangerous.
