I have heard/read that women pregnant with subsequent babies DONT usually drop until labor is about to start. I was at my 37 wk checkup today & I am 1cm dilated, and -2 station (which means baby dropped in last day or 2). Just looking for any input! Thanks

6 days ago was my last exam & he said the baby was still floating high - not even in the pelvis. Today he said it was at -2. I had a feeling that I dropped yesterday because I had to do a lot of walking & I feel A LOT of pressure in my pelivs/perineun/bum and was up about every hour last night because my bladder was squished! I can see an obvious difference in how my belly looks today too.

I think you have the multiparas confused - - everything I've ready & even my obgyn has said that multiparas RARELY drop until labor is ready to starty - Primips almost ALWAYS drop. http://parenting.ivillage.com/pregnancy/plabor/0,,3pv8,00.html

i think u will be having a baby pretty soon. it is usually not but 3 or 4 days after u drop that u will have the baby. i always got real entergetic the day before i went into labor.good luck with your baby and 37 weeks is okay, the baby will be healthy, he or she just is ready to see the world a little early!

Why do you say -2 station means the baby has dropped? Were you higher at a previous checkup or did your doctor say you had dropped? I'm just wondering since you didn't mention those things.

I think you may have it backwards. I think with your first the baby drops when you are starting into labor. And with all the babies afterwards the baby drops a couple weeks beforehand.

Sounds normal to me. Each pregnancy can be different. I walked around 4 cm dialated for 2 weeks with my first and with my second was 1 cm dialated for 3 weeks before I went into labor.

You'll probably have the baby in the next 3 weeks.

My wife says third babies are evil. Around 37 weeks you start having contractions and dilating and "nothin'" for the next 3 to 4 weeks. Although I vaguely remember, she is quite clear on this issue. Her midwife said it was normal to have false labor at this point (for third+ pregnancies because of a 'lazy' cervix). My wife was 4cm dilated as I was installing the car seat when they sent us back home for another 2 weeks.

babies can be two weeks early or two weeks late. But, I can tell you this when they are ready they are ready. But its okay every body is different. you can only go by experience not by what you hear or read. I wish it worked that way. I wish my kids came with instructions and warning labels that stated I will be stubborn so now will be a good time to prepare for me lol. but they don't just be glad you are some what on time and not late.

Sweetie,It can mean that the baby is ready.Or just shifting to get ready. One son never drop and yet I had alot of preterm labor and the other drop and never had labor to start till induced. So it really can go either way.Good luck

As long as you aren't leaking amniotic fluid, or having real contractions that are getting closer and more intense, kick back and relax. The baby could come tomorrow, or three weeks from now. But he/she will get here when ready.

In a multiparous woman, the baby always drops. In primips it does not.
