I don't think that women should be given a choice, on having a c-section versus natural delivery. C-section should not be an option, unless it is an emergency or your doctor sees fit. I think that many women choose this way over natural births, because they are afraid of the pain of the labor and delivery. What do you think? And I have a friend who had an emergency c-section, and she was up and moving around normally. I don't think it should be an option.

I might as well put a disclaimer. My opinion in no way, represent or reflect the opinions of Yahoo! ANSWERS. I just don't get it.

Now I have to explain this even more. SHEESH!!! It may be just as painful...blaa blaa blaa. Some women have no choice, because they have had previous c-sections. People are reading into this question a bit too much. This is no way a pissing contest. I just want opinions, not a bashing here.

NO!
C-sections should be reserved for when they are medically indicated. a c/s is MAJOR abdominal surgery. There are increased risks to mother and baby. Those risks are only justifiable if there is a medical indication that a c/s is required for a healthy mother and baby outcome!

I agree for the most part - particularly if this is the womans first pregnancy. A vaginaly delivery is always the safest for mom & baby. I suppose I would understand more if there were a prior c-section... needless to say, I have had both. My 1st was natural, and 2nd was emergency c-sec, and now I am on my third and have my heart set on a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). To me, there is no comparison - vaginal delivery is SO MUCH better - labor, delivery, and recovery is better! The c-section was HORRIBLE - took so long to recover & feel good - couldn't hardly hold baby, walk, it SUX!! It should ONLY be done if absolutely medically necessary!

My first daughter I was in labor for 24 hours and pushed for 2 before a C section was performed. Now with my 2nd I am choosing a C section again.. why? Because I don't want to go through all of that just to have another C section.. yes VBAC is an option... but I personally am not up for it. Knowing this we have already selected a date which makes the unknown a known and makes for less worry. That could be why many just opt for a C section... just to have a concrete date...

Most women would opt for natural child birth before a c section. But there are many women out there who can't give birth naturally due to medical problems - in which case they need to have a c section. Either way, I think it's each person's right to choose if they want a c section or not, it's up to the patient and their doctor and no one else.

I think that a choice should be given... I mean, it is their bodies and the way that they wish to deliver "their" child is their business... that they will suffer less or more, that is their problem, their choice., they have to deal with a scar and if they are okay with that, then that is just fine... if they are walking around immediately, great, god bless them . . . . They gave up having no scar and taking a risk (because regardless a c-section is an operation and it has its risks) but if the aftermath is a positive one, then great for them... It is like saying should a woman have a tummy tuck after getting pregnant and having all that in their stomachs.. there are women that do, and they look great, flat, beautiful stomach, meanwhile others chose not to, and have to deal with have their stomach hanging and feel miserable... one does what makes them happy!!! In other words, to each its own!!!

No, I don't think they should for the sake of their own convenience, for example. I would have given anything to have delivered "normally", but after a day of labour my baby's heartbeat went down really low and I had to have an emergency c'section. So I had to be put under, because there wasn't time for an epidural, and didn't see my babe for an hour (dad was with him, tho). I didn't appreciate how much it hurt after, and how my movements were restricted. I was so jealous of the woman in the next room who had a baby the same time as me, vag. delivery, and she was up and at 'em and perky the next morning, ready to go home that afternoon. So, with modern methods and drugs, no one should be scared of vag. delivery, but every woman should just feel grateful they are actually having a baby - and not worry how their body will look afterwards.

no your right it shouldnt be an option it should only be necessary when needed (emergency) i had two c-sections but my first was an emergency but when i got pregnant the second time my doctor said that i would have to have another cuz once a c-section is always a c-section and that supoosly my uterus could rupture and could put my life and baby at risk so i had no chose but to, but if woman do it just to get out of the pain there stupid cuz let me tell you something a c-section hurts more than vaginal so those of you that do other get over it!!

Why not? Whats the big deal? Life is all about choices. I'm pretty sure most hospitals try to have you have the baby naturally before they resort to other methods anyway. It's not a choice right off the bat. Unless you have medical problems that would put you in danger.

I had an emergency c-section and trust me, it was just as painful afterwards as i can imagine a natural birth would be. If you dont want a c-section dont have one, but dont condemn those women who do, it's their choice. they know the risks. As far as the scarring goes, you can't hardly see mine, used to, the scars were ugly, i too was a c-section baby, but now it's hardly noticible.

I don't think we should tell women how to have their baby. Perhaps they have a good reason to want a c-section even if they are perfectly capable of a natural birth. The more options they have, the better.
