There should be no need to wipe your baby's tongue. If there is something white on your baby's tongue or on the insides of the cheeks and roof of the mouth, it could very well be a case of thrush. This is not uncommon, and should be treated with medications your pediatrician can provide. Thrush is a type of yeast infection in the mouth. Also, be aware that thrush can be spread to you as well. This doesn't mean that you can't breastfeed, just that you need to be aware of the possibility and how to treat it properly. To learn more about thrush, please visit the website below!

Good luck, and congratulations on maintaining your breastfeeding!

Bad Shinell S!! NEVER give a baby honey! It causes botulism! People come here asking for help. Mybe this Mom has already called the pediatrician about a bunch of other things and just wanted advice. Don't give BAD advice!

There should be no need to wipe your babies toungue, but if it is gagging at the cereal on its toungue, then you may have made it too thick. Try thinner cereal, and just let it be. Babies use their toungue to learn how to swallow, fo if you see the food on the toungue it is doing it right. Take care- and be careful before you take peoples advice to heart!

Why do you need to wipe his tongue?

Can you just give him a sip or two of water when you feed him solids?

My kids all nursed exclusively until starting solids at 6 mos. They all continued to nurse well beyond a year. When I started solids at 6 mos, I always gave a couple of ounces of water in a sippy cup at the same time to help the child learn to stop to take drinks to wash down the food, etc.

Or I suppose you could get a fingertip toothbrush for infants and use that if you need to.....but I'm not sure why you're worried about wiping off his tongue? Do you wipe your tongue off after you eat? I'm confused?

Be careful!
My son has been on cereal for over a month now, and his tongue always rinses clean with water. If your baby's tongue does not rinse clean with water, it may be thrush. My son had it, and apparently it is pretty common. My pediatrician said to NEVER scrape it off his tongue, because it will spread the infection! I had never seen thrush before (my daughter never had it) and I thought that it was just formula stuck on his tongue. Have your pediatrician look at it before you try to remove anything. It could be thrush.

My nephew grew to become into began on cereal the day he grew to become into born! by using healthcare expert orders interior the hospital. in the journey that your pediatrician says that the toddler may well be ok. choose for it. even if chocolate, no longer solid in any respect. Rice cereal is for 0-3 and four-6 months. Longer in case you like. They wouldnt positioned that on their containers. And all docs have diverse comments. My daughter doesnt get sufficient from basically breast milk or formulation. She gets the two a style of and cereal. Don't wipe his tongue. Just wipe off your breast. That would make him gag.
