How many think marrying your high school sweetheart is a good idea and why? Or think it is a bad idea and why?

I married my high school sweetheart! We started dating when we were juniors, finished high school, went to college, graduated and then got married! Still together after 15 years of marriage.

I had 5 long term relationships, after thinking I would spend the rest of my life with my high school sweetheart! I am glad to have had the experience of getting know other men! My parents, however, were high school sweethearts and have been married for 37 happy years. Many of my best friends married theirs, and are still happily married after 15 years, while some didn't make it. I think you should not worry about other people, but rather know yourself, your sweetheart and what works for you. However, if there are doubts, you should think very very deep upon those thoughts!!! I had absolutely none when I married my husband, but always wondered what else could be out there for me when I dated my H.S.S.H! It is a personal, individual thing!

It depends on how long you've been together. if its been a long time like a few years and you think you could definitly be with this person for the rest of your life then why not? Go for it. But if you don't think you'd want to be with them forever then its probably a bad idea. in my opinion marrying your high school sweatheart is no different then marrying someone you've been going out with for a long time.

If ya got one, then go for it. If you truely have deep feelings for the person.

I never got a High school sweetheart. I spent two years in one school and two years in another. Then I graduated and went to a junior college. Didn't have enough time to kindle any lasting relationships.

I wish I had married my high school sweetheart, then at least today I wouldn't be going through a messy divorce. We got along great, shared everything...but after high school I was in college and he moved out of state. DAMN!

IMO, it's unnecessary. "Sweetheart" is one thing, "spouse" is a totally different story, no need to mix the two. You only live once, why not experience more of what life has to offer? Plus, with experience comes a realization that grass is not greener on the other side - and it might bring more stability into one's life and marriage.

i think its cute. However, if you marry your high school sweetheart, you will never get a chance to experience dating different personalities. Not that the more the merrier applies here.

I think it would be better to wait only because you two have other things to experience before you get married. Later on in life you will be thinking you missed out on life because you got married so young.

I think it can work, but when it does, they are the exception. (like my aunt and uncle for example) However, I believe that being with the same person and only that person for so long might cause one or both parties to wonder what else is out there, and that could put a strain in the relationship.
