You can use an aerosol hairspray. Just make sure that you spray it lightly. You don't want to wet the paper too much, because it will wrinkle.

Okay, everyone else is suggesting spray fix or hairspray, without telling you the whys.
Hairspray is cheap and will sort of fix your work. If you're looking for something low budget, this is probably the way to go.
However, a spray fixative, purchased from Michael's or another supply store, will work better. You won't have to use as much and it's less likely to wear off. It is more expensive, though.
I have used both, and wound up getting the spray fix.

They do have a spray on sealant, and some companies sell pencils that don't smudge, but alot of "pencil" people smudge! If you don't find out anything that appeals t o you, perhaps you could ask an Art Dept. in a college near you. Ask how they keep charcola from smearing

I recommend using Workable Fixative by Krylon. Wal-Mart usually has them for about $5-$7 in the craft aisle. If you shop online you can get it at http://www.dickblick.com , or http://www.jerrysartarama.com but it's a little more expensive The spray does a great job of keep your work from smudging or aging (that yellowing that appears after a few years).

Go to the art store for an aerosol fixative that you can spray on your drawings. DON'T USE HAIRSPRAY! Use something specifically designed for the purpose you have in mind.

hairspray. I learned in an art class that hairspray does something to the chemicals of media that stop them from running.
