Recently I had some very explosive diareah. After this episode, my bowl movements consisted entirely of blood and a slime or mucus of some kind. This lasted approximately 18 hours. I have seen my dr. and given samples for testing. Other symptoms include abdominal pain and cramping (lower abdimen), some dizzyness and general disorientation in the beginning, loss of appetite, and now dificullty passing a bowl movement. My last bowel was soft w/both mucus/slime and blood present. The blood is not super bright but not extra dark either (crimson red would describe it pretty good I believe). Please if anyone can help me out I would like more information about what the cause may be and what I can do to alleviate the symptoms (especially the cramping). I see the dr. again in two weeks to get the lab results back. If you need more infor please ask. Thank you in advance, any advice is much appreciated.

Your doctor should be able to tell you. Blood in your stool could be the sign of a serious illness that is causing internal bleeding.

Diarrhea can also be the sign of an illness, sometimes just dehydration, the flu, etc. or a more serious disgestive problem.

Drink a lot of water to help fight dehydration, and try eating only fresh produce and foods that are easy on your system until your doctor can give you test results. Cut out the junk food and the super spicey, and tomato based products (tomatoes are high in acid content) OJ might be one to cut back until you hear otherwise, as OJ is very acidic also.

If there is blood in the stool it could be from internal bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. If it comes off onto the toilet paper but is not in the stool, it might just be hemmoroids. If it's tarry, it means the blood has been in there for some time. Mucus might indicate some kind of infection, possibly caused by bleeding. All of this is especially true if you had a peptic or duodenal ulcer. If I were you, I would seek medical help immediately.

It could be a bad case of hemorrhoids that are bleeding inside. It could be something a little more serious like irritable bowel syndrome or something even more serious. I would go to the ER. I can't believe your doctor said to come back in two weeks. You are bleeding internally and that is not good. You will probably need a colonoscopy. Please don't wait. If your local hospital has urgent care go now! I hope you feel better.

There can be many reasons for this. I would suggest that you do a little research online by doing a search under blood in stools symptoms, then read further to see if what you are currently experiencing coincides with specific causes.

Well, I couldn't hazard much of a guess on this one.. although, you may also be having some 'roid problems since you've been having hard stools..
I pray that the doctor finds out what the problem is, and that it's nothing serious..
