As a christian what are your views on In vitro fertilization if a couple can not get pregnant any other way? Do you feel that if extra eggs are fertilized in the lab and not put into the mother then is that abortion?

I am a Christian.

I believe God works through modern medicine. And, that God works through in vitro just like he works through modern heart surgeries and triple bypasses. I believe God works through infertillity drugs just like He works through Diabetes drugs.

People give their children Diabetes meds and inhalers. But, tell women they can't take fertillity drugs because they are playing God. Well, mothers are playing God with their children by giving them their inhalers. And, what about father's who go through triple bypass surgery and what about Lipitor. How many people would tell their loved ones to stay off the cholestorol lowering drugs because they are playing God. And, God may want to take their life.

Essentially, they are telling women to bury their dreams of children because 'God' doesn't want them to. In essence, they are assuming the role of God by assuming they know what God wants.

I believe in letting God work as He will. And, that includes taking full advantage of modern medicine. It is not abortion. The fetus' are not killed.

Imagine this...

Home Depot is filled with enough materials to build 27 new homes. When a Home Depot burns down we don't say 27 houses burned down. We say a Home Depot burned down. Those extra eggs may not even viable lifes. You and I don't know what God's will is for them.

Every month there are cycles were we don't get pregnant. Or, where our bodies abort them naturally. Are we then killing our own babies?

This is such a violitle topic. But, I still say God works through intertillity treatment the SAME as any other area of medicine!

I'm honestly not sure. I've never had to face that issue in my own life. I think if I did, I'd keep the fertilized egg count to no more than 4 and implant them all. I see those fertilized eggs as a chance of life. And just my own opinion, nothing to do with religion, I'd not want my fertilized eggs possibly getting implanted by mistake into a stranger or just getting thrown away. Those are my potential children, noone elses! But then, that is just me. I'm not sure I could handle more than 2 tries, just financially or emotionally. It would be one of those try big, hope to get a twin birth at least, and be greatful to have natural children from my marriage. But you can only torture yourself so long. The longer a couple goes through TTC, the more devistating the lack of a baby becomes. If it came to adopting, I would, just to fill my arms with a child to love. I have also heard several times that after adopting, some people have had surprise babies on their own.

As a Christian, there are means I would use to heal the condition of infertilty, and there are means that I would consider "not for me."

In Vitro fertilization falls under the category of things I would not do. I personally am not comfortable "going there."

I would pursue testing, any surgical procedure s that might be indicated, consult with an herbal and alternative practitioner about natural treatments, and if indicated I would use pharmaceutical methods. But I would draw the line at in vitro, and move on to pursuing adoption. There are many children around the world who need a forever family!

I have friends who, as Christians, opted for in vitro. But they found a good doctor who was willing to only fertilize as many eggs as the mother was physically able to carry if they all lived full term.

Yep, that's exactly what Christians believe. You can't conveniently pick and choose what Christian laws you want to apply to your own life. I think Christians believe that it is God's plan for you to adopt one of the unwanted babies who were not aborted. Why does it matter if the child came from your own flesh? Aren't we all family under God?

I'm not Christian, but was raised as one and know how they think: hipocritically. Where does life begin, again?? Why is it different in this case? Isn't the procedure called "selective abortion"? Time to get a new religion and start living according to the values God placed in your own heart, and use the mind that he gave you. You're going to need them if you're becoming a parent.

As a Christian, I feel that if God wants you to have a baby then He'll give you a baby. I don't believe in "playing God" by getting pregnant with in vitro. If it's meant to be, then it's meant to be.

You shouldn't even ask this question unless you are really sure you want to know. I don't feel it is fair to say that it is God's will if you get pregnant or not. If you really want a baby and can't naturally then just go for it. If you had a broken leg you'd fix it, so you have a broken uterus, fix it.

I would not have invitro to concieve. There are many children out there up for adoption. If I could not concieve I would adopt.
