What the hell's up with these answers, they act like you asked what it's like to get pregnant at 75 or something! More and more people are getting pregnant in their late 30's and early 40's. There can be more complications, but with proper pre-natal care and proper care of your body before you even conceive, these complications can be lessoned. I see nothing wrong with waiting until you are established and ready to have a baby. I had my first at 29, I'm now 36 and am thinking of having my second. I'll consult with my Dr. first and make sure everything is okay though. 38 is NOT too old.

I'm 36 and pregnant with my second child. So far I've had no problems. I had my first child at 19 and I was very sick and it was difficult. I even broke my tailbone giving birth. This time around I have not had any morning sickness, I feel absolutely wonderful. I work full time. I think each person is different and there is really no way of knowing how you're going to feel or how your body will handle pregnancy. Age 38 may seem old to those that are not there yet but once you get closer to that age you will see that you don't feel like an old lady, you are in your prime. I think that no matter what age you are the important thing is to take care of yourself and make sure you are mature enough to raise a child.

Well, statistically speaking you know that's it's somewhat riskier in terms of birth defects, etc... But when you really look at those statistics you realize that the chances of having a healthy baby are still overwhelmingly in your favor. As long as you're healthy going into it you and your baby should be just fine. Conceiving may take longer, but then again, it may not... it just depends on you.

I am 36 now and planning to try to get pregnant next year. I know that my body is not as resilient as it was at 26, but I'm fit and healthy and this is the path my life has taken; at 26 kids weren't an option. I have genetics on my side. My mom had a healthy pregnancy at 40 and her mother did so as well at 42.

I say you're old enough to know exactly what you want, so go for it. Good luck!

My mother had me when she was 42 *gasp!*... Maybe I need to get her to answer this, lol

Now from what she told ME.. She didn't have many "out of the ordinary" problems at all, mourning sickness was very minimal.. But she had 2 children before that though..

I dunno, I think I'd be smarter than to get pregnant THAT old.

I was all done a DECADE before that.
