You can purchase exhaust repair kit at most auto parts stores but they are tedious to work with if pipe is broken in half.If this is the case,go to home improvement store(ie:Lowes)and purchase high temp tape, found in department where duct pipes are kept.then look for some metal flashing from roofing department.First clean both sides of broken pipe to remove grease and grime(so tape will stick)then wrap pipe with a couple of turns with metal flashing(as tight as possible). Then wrap whole deal with high temp tape. This tape is metallic and should withstand the temperatures of exhaust pipe.I've done this quite a few times and had no problems.Good luck!!

Cut the ends off a metal can about the same diameter as your pipe. Slice it on one side. Fish it around to cover the break in your pipe. Secure with pipe clamps.

Go to a reputable muffler shop that will weld it back. If not, it won't pass the safety inspection, with tape. But not Midas, they told me they would weld it back for $20 then when I went in, they said I needed a new muffler for $100. So I went to a small neighborhood shop that quoted me $22, and they did it for $22.

NAPA might still sell a muffler repair kit, which is really just a fiberglass wrap. You might also be able to sleeve the pipe with a short piece of flex pipe.

But, you will probably really need to replace the system. It's dangerous to have a leaky exhaust in cold weather. People die from CO poisoning every year...

This is one of the applications for flex pipe and exhaust clamps. Since I see a young'un in your arms I will add that muffler shops are better at keeping carbon monoxide out of your passenger compartment.

Try using a soup can with metal hose clamps. Be sure that pipe has cooled off, first! I hope this helps.

To really make it cheap go to your appliance store and get the metal flex hose for a dryer that matches your pice circ. then use hose clamps. It is not permanent but it is very cheap.
