Only by bleaching the black out and dying it Grey again.
My friend works in a dye house and he said you cant lighten the black to Grey because blacks are made up of different colours.
The only chemical free option is hope that the sun will bleach it Grey, but that is not guaranteed.

Bleaching and color remover gives very unpredictable results.
You may not even be able to bleach out all the color enough to re-dye it light gray. I bleached dark dark green curtains once and they wound up bright bright school bus yellow. That color could not be lightened by bleach or more color remover.

wash with some bleach.not too much though
