How can I prevent a silver ring from tarnishing everytime I get it wet?

Whenever I wash dishes or wash my hair, my silver ring turns black. How can I prevent this from happening?

Believe it or not it is you. Your body chemistry is effecting the ring more than the water. Take a chance, have someone else wear it and see if they have the same problem. Probably not. Also to consider is what % of silver is in the ring. It might be the metals mixed with the silver that is causing it to tarnish.

Silver will always tarnish unless it has been rhodium plated which is often done to jewellery. Best thing to do is take the ring off before doing these things. A good way to remove tarnish from silver is to put aluminium foil in the bottom of a dish, put in two teaspoons of salt, two teaspoons of baking soda and pour over boiling water. Put the tarnished silver items in the dish making sure they are in contact with the foil and just leave. This removes the tarnish without rubbing away the silver as metal polishes do.

I used to wear silver and it never turned black. Are you sure it's real silver? If it is then maybe you should take them off before doing the dishes or washing your hands.

Ive never had a problem with my silver unless there is bleach in the water.

Clean it very good and coat it with clear fingernail polish. You can also use clear spray krylon spray paint and the like.

okay now this is just an idea but how about taking off the ring before you get in contact with water! i know this is a wild idea but it just might work!
