Hmm...this is tough. Our hold is silence, but the old company I worked for had the radio station playing oldies. I actually prefer the beeps-you know you're still on hold, but you're not listening to any crappy music or muzak. The prerecorded message thing gets old pretty fast.

I would say D. Tones.
As long as it is not constant, just every 60 seconds or so to let you know you are still connected. I really like when the beginning of the wait has a prerecorded voice that lets you know how long your estimated hold time will be. It is nice to know just how long you could be waiting.
It is really super when the person finally come on the line and the speack perfect English with no accent so you can understand them. Thats nice.

E .. radio station. Only because I want to make sure I didnt get cut off. Lets face it , hearing prerecorded message about the company only makes us see red. Nothing worst than a company that dosent hire enough people to cover thier calls. Maybe they think your time isnt valuable.

I would prefer to hear a human voice who can quickly help with my enquiry. Press 1 for this, and 2 for that really gets on my nerves. If I really ahve to listen to one of your suggestions then i would probably suffer the music.

I think they should ask simple riddles or jokes, then give a few seconds before the answer. It would be interactive and entertaining enough that you might not mind waiting a little longer.

I'm all for E. In fact, I've asked people to put me back on hold because the music was so good!

Nothing....if I called to talk to a person, the last thing I wanna hear is some crappy music. I would prefer dead silence
