Remove all of his privliges, make him EARN them back by behaving respectfully and a "foul language jar" where he has to pay everytime he uses foul language works.

First of all this behavior didnt' happen over night. Many parents baby their kids and dont' discipline them until their teen years and then ask what happened.

You've allowed this kid to get away with a lot for a long time I expect. He's almost an adult.

If I disrespected my mom or dad by cussing in front of them at 17 y/o I would have had a boot straight up my *** with me screaming loudly (and not in the gay sense). You've lost this kid;you can try to discipline him but it may be too late.

At 17 he should be mature enough to sit him down and try having like one of those adult conversation thingys with him. Seriously though, try reasoning with him, yeah I know trying to reason with a a teenager is like banging your head against a wall but at some point it needs to be done. Have a calm conversation with him and tell him that he needs to have some respect. If he wants to cuss and be an @$$hole around his friends that's fine, but if he is around you or other adults he needs to have some respect. It's ok to sound like an ignorant fool around his bros that's one thing but there is a time and place for it. If talking to him like an adult doesn't work then just find a big burley dude to beat some respect into him, that might do the trick.

Try tough love... stop giving him everything he wants... and smack him in the mouth a few times when he gets foul mouthed... I'm sure he didn't get this way over night so don't expect the change overnight either...

Don't send him to his room. He'll find some way to entertain himself! Instead make him do all of your house work.... With you! I remember thats what a friend of my mothers did to her 17 year old when she mouthed off to her. They did yard work together all day!

brat camp. also, think about where he learned these things - if you use foul language, clean it up. if you have attitude with him, he will answer the same way.

my son's only a baby, so i'm no expert, but i certainly will try my darndest to avoid your current problem.

I'd give him a bare-bottom paddling and then wash his mouth out with soap, each time he misbehaves.
