Been there. 1. A glass of wine if you are of age. 2. What helped me the most was closing my eyes and thinking of the color black. 3. Try reading a simple novel before bed. Go to bed at the same time. 4. An ear plug in one ear sometimes helped me. I didn't like two because I couldn't hear the alarm. 5. Go to bed and wake at the same time every day. You may just be a night owl like me or need less sleep then you think. I get about 6 hours most nights. I used to get 9 - 10.

For two nights only, try using benadryl before going to bed. It might help restore your normal sleeping patterns. But DO NOT exceed two nights. If that fails, ask your doctor about Ambien, which works like a charm and can be used for about a week or two without a problem. That should be enough time to get your sleeping habits back to normal. But be warned that if you use Ambien you may not remember anything of the last half hour before you go to bed, it can have amnesic effects. If it's a back problem, a chiropractor might be able to help.

A couple years ago I was having similar sleeping problems. I would wake up constantly because my back hurt (I also had a couple knee surgeries and had trouble findind comfy positions). I tried everything and I finally found something that worked-a body pillow! It sounds too easy right? That's all it took for me to not have constant back pain. Try it, I'v suggested body pillows to a few other people and now they swear by them. When I first moved in with my boyfriend he would make fun of me for sleeping wrapped around it unitl he tried it, after that he would try to steal it from me in the middle of the night so I had to buy him his own. Try it, hopefully it will make a difference.

You may want to go to a local Relax the Back store - if you have them in your area. Check out a mattress pad by Tempurpedic by lying on it in the store. It may cost about $100, but if it does what you need then it will be worth it.
I don't know what a "bowling ball" mattress is, but I used to have a waterbed. A Tempurpedic (which is what I have now) is the next best thing.

you probably are having anxiety attacks...
maybe you're pregnant, think you're pregnant... stuff going on at work, grades if you're in school.. a lot of things. did you leave the oven on? sink dripping? forgot to call your mother?? did you feed the cat? there are probably a lot of things running through your head.
maybe talk to your dr. about that lunesta stuff... its the sleep thing that doesnt get you addicted that you can take right before bed... i have trouble sleeping, but i also have a 2 year old, so it's probably not a good idea for me to get on a sleeping med...
try reading. i play tetris on my phone until i fall asleep. but try reading in the living room-- something good but tiring.. jane austen or something....
you'll do fine.

Try a different mattress, not every mattress is good for everyone. You can also try sleeping with a under your knees if you sleep on your back or between your legs if you sleep on your side.
