The truck has about 75M miles. Shudders when cruising at a shift point and can be powered out of the shuddering.

The transmission in your truck has been know to have shudder concerns during shifts and when the converter clutch applies.
I have an 02 with the same transmission, but no shudder yet. Ford put out a TSB about this problem and suggest the fluid be changed first. I agree with this as I have done a complete flush on similar vehicles with the same problem and it has corrected it.
Get your transmission serviced with filter and a complete flush, and be SURE that the fluid going back in is Mercon V, it's critical that the correct fluid goes back in. BTW, there is NO cable on your transmission going from the accelerator to the transmission. That was only on older , not computer controlled models.

There is one other thing that will feel like a shudder and you only feel it when the converter clutch engages and many times it ends up being an engine miss. You feel it more with TCC engaged because you get a mechanical connection at that point. This is a common symptom on allot of GM's. I've often had cars come to my shop because it's perceived as a tranny problem.
I hope this info helps you solve your problem.

have you had the transmission serviced recently? if so, the wrong fluid may have been used which can cause a shudder. it could also be in the electronics or the torque converter. either way, you should take it to a transmission shop - chances are that the problem is internal and the trans will have to be rebuilt.

The old stand by is K&W's trans-X {go through the trouble to find the kind WITHOUT leak-stop}. There is a cable from the trans to the throtle accuator that should be checked to see if the holder is broke because this is a common problem with these and the trans trashes QUICKLY from this problem. you can adjust this cable, but most shift controls are electric and better done by someone with knowledge{I refer back to my statement of damage occuring QUICKLY from this area!}

It may be that your drive shaft has bad u joints in it if it is a rear wheel drive vehicle. Or they may need to be greased. I would check these first as they are the cheapest thing to replace, for starting the elimination of reasons, your vehicle does this.
