When I did my u/s at 22w4d gestation... the u/s gestation said 24w6d...including 2 wks for ovulation this is still wrong by at least 2 weeks. Then I hear alot of women say that at 8wks all they saw was a sac. But at my 8wk u/s .. it looked like a gingerbread man. It had little legs and arms already sprouting out. =) It was kinda funny! Obviously the baby is measuring bigger than he should but do you think he could have been a big baby even at the 8 wk u/s?

I highly doubt I'm further along..or else the 8wk u/s was off by 2 wks! Can the baby be more developed at 8 weeks? I guess that's my real question.

What's most likely is that your first date of last menstrual period is incorrect. Most of the actual birth weight of the baby comes in the last trimester.

My 8wk check also had a "gingerbread" figure. I'm only 11 wks now so I don't know how big I'll be later, but could be a big baby. Have they given you any guesses on weight yet? With my first, I was scheduled to be induced a week early because they were guessing about 8.5-9# baby and I'm a fairly small person myself. My baby came on her own a week before my due date and weighed in at 7# 11oz and 19" long. The doctors are usually pretty good at guessing the further along you get, and depending on your size and everything, they may suggest inducing before your expected date as well. Good luck!

Honestly, the ultrasound is just a general measurement they use for everyone but its not always 100% accurate because not every woman's ovulation cycles are the same. Just trust your gut and realize that if they are off by a week or two, its really not going to make a big difference. Good luck with the baby!!

ultrasounds are pretty accurate with their measurments of the baby and correlating that to a gestational age, however, they do take into consideration your last period and when you think you conceived.

often times the ultrasounds are a few days give or take anyway....
i wouldn't stress too much and just go with the flow.
some people have 6 pound babies and some have *gasp* 10 pound babies....after the regular 40 wks of gestation.....

everyone is different and your baby could be big or you could just be farther along.....either way, your baby is going to come out when he/she is ready and will be whatever size he/she is meant to be:)

take care and keep growing that healthy baby!!!!

I had to laugh reading this because my pregnancy was exactly the same. At 22 weeks the U/S said 24 weeks and at 30 weeks another U/S (I had several ultrasounds due to GD) said 33 weeks.

I was always complaining about being uncomfortable and swearing my baby was going to be huge..At 37 weeks I delivered a healthy 9.6 lb baby boy!

Good thing I didn't carry to 40 weeks!

See what your Dr says as your pregnancy progresses, They can usually get a guesstimate on size thru physical examinations of your utures.

Good luck!

I am 13 weeks and when I went to my 8th week check up and she done my ultrasound I as well seen the babies legs ex... The doctor told me that the baby is a LITTLE bigger than it should have been yet it is developing at the rate it should. It does NOT always mean you are having a BIG baby.

Ultrasounds measure by bone mass, before bone has formed all you see is shadows and outlines.

It could be a big baby, or you could have your dates wrong, are you sure you have everything calculated correctly?

But like I said, it could just be a big baby. My friend had her baby on Friday and he turned out to be 10lbs and 12 oz, but they're both healthy. So even if you do have a big baby, with good doctors you'll both be just fine.

Congrats!

People's ovulation times are different, and like others have said, it may be off by a week or so. Maybe the tech doing your ultrasound did a close up of the baby....who knows? Sounds kind of like someone I know, when she said her baby was too big to tell what it was. Well, she had her BIG 6lb.3oz. baby.

Yes, but you may be further along then they thought and that could be why your baby seems big. My bf just had her baby and it was 9 lbs and they thought she was further along due to how big baby was, but she ended up making it all the way until her original due date. Good luck!!
