Check your NIC card: it must be enabled
And, I would advise you to create a manual connection in windows... when trying to connect after creating it, you'll receive the error message and you'll know what's wrong and why can't you connect
If you're using wireless, make sure the card is on
Otherwise, contact your ISP or a technitian hehehe
I work reparing DSL but I'd need to know what error message you get to help you

what cable are u using?
if its usb then u will need to reboot the modem and the laptop
so it gets a new ip address.
if that doesnt work contact your internet service provider.
